I had lunch here with three friends, one of whom was celebrating a birthday. As a vegetarian, I found several interesting choices on the menu and I decided on the Buddha Bowl with chick peas, falafel, avocado, butternut squash, salad leaves and a dip. The waitress said butternut squash wasn't available, so I ordered feta cheese instead. One of my friends had a Ruben Chiabatta, another chose the Gourmet Burger, and another the Pork Belly Burger. It took quite a while for the food to be served, but this may have been because a member of staff went out for some butternut squash so this was added to my Buddha Bowl as well as the feta cheese. Portions of all our meals were very generous, and three of us weren't able to finish our food although it was extremely good. The hot chocolate, tea and white wine were also appreciated, but one of my friends found the coffee a little strong. Service was polite and friendly. I should just mention that the toilets are outside, across the courtyard, but obviously not far. Highly recommended, and I hope I have the chance to go again.

Tasty breakfast in a restaurant in the castle courtyard. Quite busy so book. Friendly lady serving. Worth checking maps beforehand and navigating with What.Three.Words

We booked in advance for 11:30. When we booked we were told we would have to order quick before 11:40 to get the breakfast menu as that is their change over time. We arrived on time. Sat down and ordered immediately. Five minutes later a waiter returned at bang on 11:40 to tell us we couldn’t have the breakfast we had already ordered. He said we could order lunch but not until 12:00. This we would be punished for doing exactly as we had been instructed by a 20 minute wait before we could even order! We did wait 10 minutes but when it became clear they were not even going to bring our drinks we left. We went to the Briney without a book were seated with a smile and order taken right away. Now maybe it’s me but I really don’t understand why Courtyard couldn’t take an order right away after disappointing us. Really poor customer service that left me feeling disappointed and disrespected.

A fantastic lunch at The Courtyard! I'd never eaten here before but will definitely be back. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent. WE had ciabattas and a buddha bowl, all were extremely tasty and well presented. The chips were also perfectly cooked!

What a little gem. The Sunday roast was the best we’ve had in a long time prior to the pandemic that is! The staff were attentive, friendly and the interior very sympathetic to Southsea Castle dating back to 1544. I’m sure Henry VIII would be very happy ! We shall be making it our ‘go to’ venue during our walks.

Absolutely outstanding. The normal service at The Courtyard is fabulous - great food, reasonably priced and always excellent customer care, but the NYE special event was a true triumph. I almost don't want to let people know how good it was in case it gets too popular and we can't book next year!!

Food was enjoyed by most of our little gathering, but wasn't to my own taste-not a fault with the restaurant though. Service was friendly. Only issue we had was the queuing system, my relatives arrived just after me and were told they had to wait in the queue rather than being allowed to just come and join us. Apart from that, very nice! Beautiful inside as well, but be warned...there's no mobile phone signal! Which actually makes perfect sense when you think about/see the building but something to be aware of if you do need to be accessible by phone. There's outside seating in better weather though.
