they we're too lazy to cook more chips because they were closing so we we're told one of us just couldn't eat, absolutely terrible customer service.

If there was a zero star I would go for it. We placed an order for collection which was received as successful so I went to pick it up. The "place" said they never received any order nevertheless I showed him on my obviously last time ordering from there. I can only guess how they deliver food if they can't do even single collection. If you want to be messed about Mr cod is your place.

On my very first visit two of us got into an argument with the person at the counter. In the first instance, I am not exactly sure who was at fault even though the whole incident happened in my presence as there were a lot of references to some past experiences, anyway the issue I want to highlight is the way the Mr. Cod representative was speaking to the customer, they had no clue that they are in an industry where customer service is paramount. He did not even attempt to suppress his anger or talk politely. As for my personal experience, I had ordered for a "masala fish and chips meal" for 6 pounds, when I got the order the fish was slightly burnt, but I did not mind that so I did not even raise the issue. But the ketchup that was served with the fries, was not at all proportionate to the quantity of the fries, I just thought that they want to avoid wastage, hence the small portions, when I requested him for the second time, he hesitantly gave it to me with a frown on his face. I purposely went for the third time as I still had a lot of fries remaining, to which he said that I have to pay extra, thats when I asked him as to why did he not tell me this in the beginning, to which he replied that this is company policy. When I asked him how does he measure the amount of ketchup he was pouring per squeeze, he replied that he just knows. That may be the company policy, I have nothing against that, but the way he put it across and his tone of voice was just not something that u expect to hear when you have paid for your meal. Instead the other person feels that he is doing you a favour. I will never go there again and would not recommend it either. The only reason I have not included any names is that I dont want this to be targeted at a single individual as the other workers were just not bothered about his behavior, it may well be part of their company policy.

After a bad experience with some discrimination towards myself and my wife during lockdown, we gave it another shot, (basically in an act of desperation as hadn't eaten all day after running kitchens and getting home later than usual so nothing else open!) However, it was a completely different experience this time. Friendly, polite and food lovely, no sign of the individual from lockdown, thankfully! Happy we were in a position we HAD to try you again, just a shame about the individual you had there before or we would have been regular customers before now living opposite you!

This was the worst fish and chips I have ever had. The fish was nowhere near fresh. It tasted awful. I will never order from here again. Mr Cod is not a good fish shop

Used to live a very short distance from this Mr Cod. Never had anything dodgy to eat from them. However, I have witnessed several times customers come in and be very abusive towards staff. These guys take it in the chin and are respectful to everyone. Come in, be polite, make your order and if you have to wait go to the off licence next door or whatever. Genuinely good food and very patient staff given all the rubbish they have to out up with. Will be visiting again now that I'm back in Reading.

I paid £4.49 for what could pass as a small portion of cod and fit inside a medium styrofoam container. The 'piri piri rice' was just plain rice with some sort of sour-tasting hot sauce congealed on top of the rice. The chips were drenched in oil.Awful. Avoid.
