Great fish and chip shop, nice chunky chips, good portions, salt snd vinegar them yourself nice packaging. Only gripe is cash only ? Come on this is 2022 not 1982 otherwise 5 star review.

Didn’t like fish much, no much taste and the texture reminds its from frozen. And they are cash only - imagine it’s 21 century and covid environment and yet no contactless, must be tax considerations over public health and safety…

A disappointing experience at The Master Fryer in Emmer Green tonight. A refusal to serve me chips that were hot.I paid for some chips and when the guy opened the storage section, it was clear that all that was left was the last section of that batch. He had to scrape the scoop across the bottom of the section to get the chips out. Foreseeing that they may have been sat there for a while, I asked if they’d be cold. He said they are fresh and would be hot. Once in a bag, I touched a chip and it was barely even warm.I politely asked if he could make a fresh, hot batch. He refused to do so and offered me just a refund. He insisted this batch of chips was hot and only made a few minutes before. When I asked him numerous times to touch the chip to show what I meant, he continually refused to do so and just insisted they were hot.The batch had clearly not just been made. Aside from them being cold, they would not, being a Friday night, make a fresh batch of a small amount like that.He continued to refuse to serve hot chips and gave me a refund. No doubt those cold chips went back into the storage to be served to another paying customer. Before anyone jumps down my throat and says “It’s only chips - what’s the big deal?’ … the issue isn’t the chips, it’s the very poor customer service. Refusing to provide what a customer is paying for and denying there’s an issue when there clearly is, just to save a matter of pennies.Could I not just have heated it up once home? Of course. But I’d planned to eat them on the way home.

They always serve hot chips, friendly, efficient and are great with difficult customers.

When we first moved to caversham park village this was the best chip shop for miles. Then in the last 3 years it has really gone down hill. Food is regulary warm not hot. Chips are either under or over cooked, and the fish is often saturated in oil . Tonight they messed up our order, and we only discovered when we got home. Not happy as two adults had to share one portion of food!!Shame as it used to be an awesome chip shop not any more!

Third bad experience today. Previously trying to buy fish on a Friday was impossible because they never cooked enough and there was always a long wait. Today we ordered 2x fish and 2x sausage. I get home to find I'm missing a fish. Called them and was offered the replacement but what's the point? I'm home and to go back out using my petrol for a mistake that wasn't mine to return to the rest of the meal cold? They've lost my business completely now!

Always good, freshly cooked and yes sometimes there maybe a wait for chip or fish but FRESH! 😋😋 a busy chip shop but they never let the quality slip keeping it fresh by cooking regularly instead of having it sitting around.

It’s all about the fish — serving a fairly decent range — and as a consequence seems to deal only in the freshest of the stuff. It really shows in the flaky, moist and sweet-tasting cod that gently steams within a light but crunchy batter. The chips are very decent too, the guy that serves always comes across as a quite a grumpy chap but he is doing a fine job
