Unfussy British food and pub grub classics in a village inn with smart modern looks, plus real ale.

Beautiful pub and huge garden- was really nice to sit out and enjoy the sun. I had the Sunday Roast beef which was a quite a big portion and very tasty. If I were to make one suggestion that would be to make the roast potatoes more crispy. Fish and chips were good too. Probably worth booking on a Sunday

Went there on a whip on Saturday afternoon. Had booked a last minute table in the garden. However it proofed to be too hot for my 80 year old mum. Staff was amazing, found us a table with more cover. Staff super attentive. Even manager came over to say hello and check on us. We had the 2 lamb legs to share platers with new potatoes and vegetables. Super delicious the dish was, more than enough to share among 3 adults. Kids loved their food as well. Great pub wonderful atmosphere. Most definitely be going back again.

Sunday lunch with my Brother and Sister in law..... before we move to France, Rack of lamb and Hake from the specials menu.... every bit as good as any fancy French restaurant..! Friendly staff, very clean and tidy pub... well done will definitely visit again.

Really enjoyed our meal last week. Food was tasty, staff was very friendly and pub décor was really nice. Must come back again this summer to enjoy the outdoor sitting area with a nice cold beer.

Beautifully refurbished, lovely pub and location.Food in our opinion was mediocre and pricey. Our starter seafood cocktails were soggy, watery and had little flavour, disappointing at£14 each.We did leave feedback to the waitress. In our opinion, the mains menu did really not have much choice forvegetarians.Main meals wereunderwhelming, food could be better presented and portions more generous. We were family of 6 adults and 2 children. We found there was broken glass around our table which we had to ask to be cleaned up. The polite staff attended quickly.Venue is very impressive its a shame the food wasn't.

A wonderful English pub serving fantastic food in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The service is always outstanding and the staff attentive. We had the best roast dinner and the brownie was amazing!!We look forward to our next visit when the refurbishment is complete.

Had Saturday lunch here with family and grandchildren, (our first visit). Menu has been designed to not offer too big a number of choice, but with the clear benefit that the food is produced to an excellent standard, perfectly prepared. Everyone in our group was delighted with their choice, and the service was excellent. I think that any of our group would be happy to recommend The Chequers, and I'm sure we will be back in future.

Went for a Sunday roast dinner recently. A shandy cost £6.10 (Shocking) and a roast Beef cost £18 which is high for the location. These prices are fine for a beautiful looking pub (which it is), and if the food is good (which it wasn't). The gravy was watery, roast potatoes and cabbage resembled that of a school dinner. Pork was overcooked and Beef was overdone in parts. The parsnips and Yorkshire puddings were nice though. I was so disappointed as this used to be one of my favourite pubs in the area and has been for a long time. I hope it was a one-off. The redeeming quality were the staff, all of whom were very polite and welcoming. Sorry to leave a bad review.

Loved it! The staff were incredible and noticeably friendly which makes such a difference, especially as we'd never been before. Beautiful restaurant, but the bar area was equally as gorgeous with the fire going. Prompt service, delicious menu and food was scrummy. Great selection of booze, and also alcohol free drinks too so plenty of options of all.We will absolutely be back!
