Weird drive down a dead end lane but worth the visit. Good home cooked food, for a reasonable price, with friendly staff. A true pub on one side and a dining area on the other. There was a band the night we went which the bar staff said was frequent. The garden looked large and comfortable.

Great place for a beer and food both in the evening. I particularly like to sit with a beer on sunny days on the benches opposite the pub. Don't just take my word for it, the car park is always full during opening hours!

Came across this pub on my walk today. Fantastic venue, very cosy, good food and lovely selection of drinks. The truffle chips in particular were outstanding. The lady behind the bar was really friendly and gorgeous. This is somewhere I'd go out of my way to stop off for a drink or two. You can tell it gets busy on the weekends as they do live music and have a good outside area as well.

So very disappointed this afternoon. Have been here a few times and always had a lovely experience. Seems after a year of not being here things have gone down hill. Was looked at by the gentleman behind the bar as if I didn’t belong in there. Felt extremely uncomfortable. I had just been for a walk with my dog and said id sit outside and could I please have a hot chocolate. I got a reply if we don’t serve hot chocolates in the afternoon in a very stern and I can’t be bothered attitude. Seems rather silly when lots of people do dog walks in the cold and wet. Hay ho they’ve lost business. The saddest thing was another female colleague who was there seemed very friendly and when I was told no to the hot chocolate she looked very disappointed with her colleague for saying no and looked almost gutted for me.I won’t be visiting here again in a hurry that’s for sure. I left feeling deflated. Almost ruined my afternoon.

Sad to see such a change in The Sportsman as have had some great visits there. Greeted by a lady who clearly didn't want to be there - no smile or welcome just a curt answer to my question about lunch. We did eat outside at wet and muddy tables and benches (I expect mud - we'd just walked through loads!!) but the tables and benches could be wiped and cleared. Very limited choice but OK. Wished we'd realised food served at the outside coffee shop - that looked good and fronted by a smiley, friendly lady.

Booked a table for lunch for 3, courteous and friendly from the moment we got there, quick fantastic service, excellent food of generous proportions, fabulous puddings, warm atmosphere and even with “Omicron” around, the place was packed, felt like the good old days, definitely will return.

Nestled away we nearly missed the turning but what a find! Outstanding food and great welcome from Ashley & team

The staff coped exceptionally well with 16 WI ladies booked in for lunch. The menu choice was varied and well received. The service was professional and unobtrusive. Sam and Nicky did an amazing job. Ashley, chef extraordinaire, produced food to a 5* standard. The pub is dog friendly and they keep the well behaved visitors away from the eating area where we were seated, everyone is happy. Well done to all concerned.

We stopped here as part of a Charity walk, great service and great drinks. The food being served looked great - just wish we could have stayed longer to get some!! Once we left we saw they had donated a substantial sum to our cause so thank you very much for that. A proper countryside pub and one I would defiantly recommend

Lovely pub garden - very spacious with plenty of tables. Good roast dinner, a variety of options including for vegetarians. Homemade Yorkshire puddings which were good if slightly greasy. Decent value for money and quick service. Service could be friendlier; they seemed quite stressed, though this was during Sunday lunch. Disappointing to see nobody wearing face masks.
