Very nice clean pub, it has lovely atmosphere. The service was great the waitresses are lovely they are doing a great job, but the food was very disappointing.I ordered mixed roast dish, the beef was fatty, the roast potatoes were soggy, and the carrots were overcooked. The portion was on the short side, only had a thin slice of beef, some pork (the skin was tough) and a small piece of chicken (the wing part without the breast) not what you’d expect for £24…Also, the roast comes only with carrots and cabbage, no broccoli or peas, and no coliflower dish. Broccoli or pease would be the bare minimum. The kids had cheese burger and fish. The burger was overcooked and dry, and very plane - no sauce or any lettuce… it was a waste of money. The fish was good but the peas on the side was also overcooked it lost it’s vibrant green colour.Overall it’s a really nice pub, but the kitchen needs significant improvement.Sadly i won’t be returning, and i wouldn’t recommend it to anyone….

Really beautiful pub that has been recently refurbished to a high standard. The food was really nice and the service was friendly. Can't wait to come back to try the Sunday Roast and the Thursday Quiz Night!

Under new ownership and management (reopened November 2021), the Stanhope has been through an amazing transformation. Well worth a visit for a great selection of beers and wines. A good menu on offer too. All hosted by an amazing team. Good luck Stanhope. Cheers!

Popped in for lunch, last minute plans. Newly opened this month and the refurbishment has been done to a high standard. Managed to retain a familiar and homley feel, probably due to the staff being welcoming, friendly and attentive. We sat in the conservatory room. Airy and light. I had a good look around and all other areas look great, comfortable and nicely decorated. Toilets new and spotless. Food is all the favourites, not over complicated but plenty of choice. Pricing spot on too. In fact we didn't eat elsewhere due to it being ÂŁ9 for a sandwich. Here ÂŁ6 for a fish finger sandwich, salad with dressing and crisps, with proper fried fish (not fingers). Dad had fish and chips and mushy peas ÂŁ12.50 and mum a prawn/garlic starter dish which came with baguette bread. All very good and desserts were delicious. If you can manage it try the trio of desserts. On the day ours was the after 8 cheesecake, chocolate brownie, stocky toffee pudding and ice cream and hot drink all for ÂŁ6.25. Good quality tea bags too. Nice relaxing time.
