Romney Bay House Restaurant in Shepway

I'm not exactly sure of why google maps describes this place as a "modest" hotel as it's anything but. The rooms are large and cozy, the staff is perfect and the furnishing is tasteful. All in all a great place if you wish to relax near the sea.

It is often said that this wonderful house with stunning views was built for Hollywood gossip queen Hedda Hopper. Yes, it was built for Hopper in the 1920s but she was still a working actress then and didn’t become a columnist until 1935.

Excellent food with amazing sea views with a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Ideal place to unwind and enjoy wonderful meals. Thoroughly recommend staying here.

Situated right on the beach with a golf course to the rear. Very friendly staff who want to give you the best service possible, the food is excellent, a set 4 course meal made with local produce.

Fantastic setting, brilliant old fashioned attention to detail service, exciting delicious food, lovely owners and staff. Could not fault 10 out of ten.

Absolutely amazing spot! The views from our room (room 4) were stunning from the bedroom and the bathroom and the room was a great size and very comfy. The hospitality was fantastic and the location was just what we were after- a quiet retreat right on the beach front. You will be blown away by the food. I am a vegan and they went out of their way to make sure I had the most delicious food. We will be back!

Without doubt one my favourite places I have stayed.Upon arrival I was warmly welcomed by Lisa(owner), I was shown to my room and I was delighted it had a homely feel, with beautiful views over the sea. Lisa and her husband Clinton are extremely friendly, and nothing appears to much trouble. The restaurant is very flexible (appreciated this!)I wanted to eat out for lunch on a couple of occasions and an alternative light snack (sandwiches /cheese board) were prepared and presented beautifully for me in the evening and deserves a special thanks.I would however, highly recommend eating in the restaurant as the food is first class.The honesty bar is an interesting concept, but appears to work well. I had 4 great evenings here, and beautiful weather which obviously added up to a great experience. All the little extras in the room are a nice touch. The place is spotless clean, with fresh white, good size fluffy towels,supplied daily, in addition a bathrobe, plus the room is made up and refurbished with a good selection biscuits, coffee and teas, with the addition of bottled water.Breakfast is absolutely great with fresh locally sourced produce.Note, this is not a 4/5-star hotel or so, but the atmosphere is so special that it really felt like home to me. All respect for the owners Lisa and Clinton who do a great job here; a true example of excellent hospitality!

I enjoyed my professional visit to this lovely old house. However I wasn't impressed with the lunch provided for £7.50 or something similar. Beautiful house and views just needs updating a little too
