Lovely quiet hotel and charming atmosphere. Very helpful staff who worked tirelessly even though they were understaffed. The manager Philip was so friendly and charming making sure all the guests were happy and nothing was too much trouble. He was always busy and so professional. The meals in the restaurant were tasty and so too was breakfast with plenty of choice. Lisa in the breakfast room was very helpful and chatty. We will definitely return. Keep up the good work Philip and staff.

We had a 2 day stay last week. The hotel is so pretty and very welcoming. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially the breakfast young woman called Lisa, she was lovely. The food was beautiful and breakfast was so much choice I could have lived there quite happily.Just one small thing, our room was very dusty, obviously no one checked that it was cleaned properly. But I would stay there again.Small problem, our room was a bit dusty,I mention this because housekeeping need to check that rooms are cleaned properly. But would stay there again. e

Mixed feelings, all the staff are great, pleasant decor and food was good. However a mixup over the wine prices, two lists having the same wine at £34 and £50 a bottle, was handled very badly by the General Manager. Very pour customer handling skills in my opinion. Spoiled the stay. This wasn't my first stay, but will be my last.Rather than go into details, I will take this up with Mercure. The leathern bottle pub is only a short walk and very pleasant for food and refreshments.

Friendly and helpful staff, good food, in particular breakfast was excellent. A particular thanks to Lisa, couldn't do enough for us. The big let down was our room most of the surfaces was covered in a fine layer of dust, making me cough and sneeze. Convey our thanks to lisa please.

Great hotel in a a place that is convenient for a visit to the local countryside. Good size rooms and very quiet. Showers will burn your face off if you aren’t careful, oscillating from tepid to plasma in temperature over the space of a few seconds without touching anything.

First impressions on arrival lovely building but all I could smell was cigarettes smoke and the floor was covered in cigarette butts. Not a great start.Check-in quick and the receptionist was nice and welcoming. The room was nice and spacious but did feel the furniture was a little dated. The bathroom you could have a party in as it is that big you can keep 2 meters apart. Although in the mornings you need to wear a ever bit of clothing you have as it was closer than the North Pole.Overall the room was comfy and heating kept it warm and didn’t hear any other noise from around the hotel.I didn’t eat at the hotel as I needed to get away early in the morning and evening didn’t fancy the menu.Checkout was simple just drop your room card in at reception and go.All in all a nice hotel just remember to bring your gas mask on arrival if you don’t like the cigarette smoke.I hope you enjoy your stay.

The staff are what make this hotel. Nothing is too much trouble. The person on reception, who we discovered was called Admiral Abbey, is warm, friendly and extremely helpful. He made the stay memorable. The breakfast was excellent, a comprehensive cold buffet and high quality, generous cooked breakfast. The bedroom was very quiet, with heavy blackout curtains and a fridge. The central heating didn't come on so it was cold, although a portable radiator was provided. The bathroom was modern with a walk in shower, although should have been cleaner. The hotel location is great with lovely countryside and several nice walks locally.
