The Baskerville in South Oxfordshire
Where is The Baskerville?
🏠 7 Station Rd, Lower Shiplake, Henley-on-Thames RG9 3NY
"You’ll find the Baskerville just a stone’s throw from the river, making it the perfect watering hole for hungry walkers to stray off the Thames path for a well-earnt rest to enjoy a range of local ales or a glass of wine alongside a hearty meal or a few small plates and bites for grazing in the garden. Others may enjoy a dish cooked over fire from our outdoor kitchen on those days when the weather allows us to dine alfresco. Or perhaps you’re seeking an experience a little out of the ordinary, our Bedouin Tent will tick this box. And keep a close eye out for other events and activations we’ll be holding at The Baskerville in the near future."

Simply brilliant. If you run a pub and want to know what excellent looks like... visit the Baskie. Friendly, warm and efficient staff combine with a great chef and now a really lovely garden. It's outstanding.

Lovely food (huge portions so had to go forgo dessert sadly - and with a train back to Henley imminent), friendly and quick service. Reasonably priced.

Superb menu bought to life by Simon and his great staff. Cannot recommend highly enough

Delicious food and incredibly friendly service. What more could you want? The whitebait was some of the best I'd tasted - unexpected for somewhere which is about as far away from the sea as you could be! The venison burger had incredibly deep and robust flavour. Worth booking a table in advance especially if you are walking from Henley as this place is often very busy.

Comfortable and clean but lacking in luxury. We were provided with 1 cup for drinking with, we had to ask for towels, no tea bags, we had to ask for a jug of milk but given no fridge to store it in and therefore ended up off, very cold, and very noisy. Doesn't quieten down until about 12.30am. Staff very noisy after it closed. Breakfast nice but limited menu and if the kitchen is closed you are offered croissant or yogurt only. No fruit or cereal on offer. Will not return.

Great local for the folk of Shiplake and area. Good food friendly staff and great selection of beers tables well spaced. Whats not to like?

First time we've visited and found it to be a nice, friendly pub. Planning to return to eat next time - the menu looks good!

Good food, great service. We were delayed by traffic but they were very understanding and kept our table

We had an absolutely fabulous Sunday lunch here. It was the first time we had been able to see family for nearly two years and we sat in a huge Beduin tent surrounded by wonderful rugs and cushions, sofas and low tables. The atmosphere is brilliant. AND ... the best part was that I had the best roast lunch I've had for years! In fact we were all delighted with the food, the ambiance, the surroundings and the service. 5*

Had an enjoyable birthday dinner here. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive, the place is nice and good range of dishes on the menu.Had the cod fritters to start and although they were tasty, couldn't taste much cod and no sign of the Anchovies. My main was the lamb, which was enjoyable but didn't taste particularly fresh, more like it had been cooked in advance and reheated. All in all a good night, but did end up feeling that the food needed just a little more effort to nudge it from good to great.
