Platform Tavern in Southampton

Came for the music and expected your usual pub grub but was completely amazed on the quality provided. Yes it's a bit rough around the edges, but that's all part of its charm. Two Santana covers in one night gives it 5 stars anyway. Go for the music but be amazed by the food

This was probably one of the best nights I've had our in the last few years! Absolutely amazing food, great drinks, brilliant service - I would wholeheartedly recommend the tavern

Disclaimer, I've been here many times and really loved the place, but it only takes one bad experience to spoil all the good times...Had a disappointing pre-Xmas meal here with a couple of friends. 2 of us ordered the seafood platter, at £19 one of the most expensive items on the menu. They were out of scallops so cod was offered, not ideal but fine, though I would have liked the price to have been a little lower as I would have thought that scallops are more expensive than cod.The food came out, but both seafood platters were cold, so sent back. They came out and the calamari rings were still cold. Nobody came back to check on how the food was, and by this time we were all very hungry so ate it anyway.At the end we queried the bill and reqeusted that we paid for just one of the seafood platters, which I think was reasonable. But the manager told us that she could only offer us a 30% discount, which I said I was not happy with, but "she was unable to offer a bigger discount" and that it was our fault for not reporting that the second serving was also cold.To me, if food is sent back once, and still comes out cold again the failure is with the restaurant. If we had sent it back a second time, the third meal would also have had to go back. We had given them an opportunity to rectify the mistake by sending it back once, and this opportunity had been missed.I've been coming to the Platform Tavern for 20 years and it's a great place, but this was an incredibly disappointing experience.

I was really looking forward to trying this place as it always looks busy every time I drive past, however, it is one of the worst pubs/restaurants I've ever been to in Southampton! Food was terrible. Very poor quality to ingredients and poor effort on flavour or even presentation. Plates were cold, therefore the food got cold really quickly. Seafood tasted funny, prawns completely overcooked and scallops badly cooked as well. Plus, despite booking a table in advance, we were probably given one of the worst ones (if not worst) - right by the toilet! Not to mention that it was quite cold in there - kept getting a breeze coming from the back door. To finalise, none of the staff were wearing masks. I won't come back unfortunately.

A fantastic Ploughman’s Lunch at the Platform Tavern today. The best that we’ve seen in the city. Perfect for sharing. Superb beers and tunes as always.

Wow! Not only is the pub/ restaurant authentic. The staff were first class. BUT the food… not expecting the food to be of such quality as priced well. But I’ll be going back as the food was totally amazing. To have such an amazing dinning experience with a cost affordable yet outstanding. I’m coming back. And telling my friends. The rather tall guy ( ? In charge) seemed just to be flowing in his job. And for me I see it’s not a job as such but a vocation. Wonderful experience will be back.

Very friendly place with th live music most nights. There is a separate dining area and the main drinking area is comfortable and spacious. They have specials on beer ale and food most days as well as the usual assortment of pub food and drink.I was able to take my dog and there was water for her. There is a small seating area outside to smoke as well. Recommend for a date, nice meal or just some relaxing music and a beer.

One of my favourite pubs in Southampton. The pub is very cozy and when there is live music the atmosphere is brilliant! The pub has a fair amount of beer available and the food is delicious! 😋

Our band Pot Kettle Black had the honor of performing here last night and it was brilliant, great atmosphere, great staff really accommodating and just genuinely nice people, I also had some food too while here which was lovely. We had a great night 😎

Fantastic atmosphere in this tiny old pub built in the 1100's. Stomping Dave was performing and was absolutely awesome! Tap dancing & banjo. What a character. A must do when visiting Southampton. Found in The Old Quarter.
