Shanghai 1814 Restaurant & Bar in Southampton

This is definitely worth a visit. We went for dinner on a friday and the food was phenomenal. So many tasty dishes that were evidently all cooked fresh.The dishes themselves all had a super good flavour, the garlic brocoli was perfectly garlicky, the pepper beef had an amazing pepper sauce and the starters were all amazing.The cocktails were presented well too and tasted great!In between each course our table was thoroughly cleaned and fresh towels offered. The staff were incredible and very accomodating and friendly.The price was quite high but I feel reasonable for the experience, between 2 of us with a sharing menu, a starter and 2 cocktails each (plus service charge) it came to just under £100 each which honestly isn't terrible considering the incredibly aesthetic environment, the stellar service and the amazing food!Everything was clean and well presented, even the toilets were super clean!The duck being prepared at our table was definitely a highlight too.I'd highly recommend a visit here, I imagine it would be quite cost effective if you came and just had one starter and a main and a few drinks but it was a special occasion so we had quite a lot (and they were accommodating for leftovers too!)10/10 would recommend a trip!

They provide a wide selection of dishes, making it difficult to decide what to get because almost everything on the menu seems nice. The cognac was superb. It actually appeals to me a lot. Very classy atmosphere and good, fast service. Food was decent but a little pricey for what it was and the area. Would recommend to try.

It's always a pleasure to dine in Shanghai 1814 Restaurant whenever we are in Southampton. It is a Chinese restaurant serving traditional and authentic Chinese dishes. My favourites are their sizzling scallops platter and char siu. The ambience is really intimate and private. The staffs are also very accommodating and helpful, making sure their guests are comfortable and satisfied. Plus they have the best toilet in town! 😊Tip: you need to book before you dine in. You can do it online or via phone call. They're open for lunch from 12pm to 3pm and again for dinner starting at 5pm.

Atmospheric ambience for fine Chinese cuisine dining. Food tastes authentically flavoursome, the meats are tender, and the rice fluffy! Great place for splashing out for a catch up with old friends, but a bit on the pricey side which is expected for the posh setting and atmosphere :)

Very nice restaurant. Food was amazing, service amazing. Waitress recommended beef with mushrooms as main dish, my husband doesn’t like mushrooms but decided to try. And it was 10/10 we enjoyed it. Definitely come back again.

Stunning setting with beautiful decorations. Incredible food with friendly and attentive staff. Honestly could not ask for more. Will definitely be back here again soon.

Celebrated our good friends' 50th Wedding Anniversary here today. Not been before, but what a fabulous find. We had a booth . .which made their occasion even more special with their family.The food was fabulous, really delicious and could not fault the service. Decor is beautiful, very chic.Would recommend Shanghai 1814 and will definitely be back. Thankyou.

Spectacular! 100% will return soon!The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. Our waiter Will in particular left us with a very positive impression, with his recommendations on the menu.The restaurant still takes covid precautions, which we really appreciated. Masks, temperature check, and sanitizer all were in hand.The ambience is just incredible, extreme attention to detail. It was a very relaxing atmosphere and immersive experience.Last but not least, the food was divine: we had the pork dumplings, the vegetarian spring rolls, the kung-po chicken and sizzling beef, with jasmine rice and egg fried rice. Cannot fault any of the above, but the mains in particular were extraordinary.

Amazing decor and amazing food! The tempura prawns in particular were spectacular. A crispy, light batter with a very "meaty" prawn to boot! The beef sizzler plate coupled with garlic tenderstem broccoli and egg fried rice was my choice, and it did not disappoint! My wife had the same but with th chicken sizzler plate. I definitely preferred the beef.One note is that we did feel a little rushed in there, but the silver lining was service was fast and efficient. Not rude but maybe not the friendliest either.I would 100% recommend going and will be back myself.
