Great to see this restaurant so busy Service was fast and friendly. The dim sum was as excellent as ever- particular the har gau and the beef Cheung fun. Prices are very reasonable and it's an easy to get to central location. Highly recommended for all!

Food was super authentic - tasted exactly like it does in Hong Kong. Only complaints are that it was quite cold in the restaurant and the service was a bit rude/slow at times, but I'll just chalk that up to being part of the authentic HK dining experience 😝😝

We travel from Bournemouth to Southampton just for the dim sum on a Sunday. Get there early. Always full of Chinese on a Sunday, if you want to use that as a benchmark.Good range of dishes on the menu and fresh savoury pastries.Decor is old world Chinese restaurant. Not an issue for me. There is a swanky Chinese restaurant in an ex-bank further down the road if you like something upmarket, but we come here for the food.I can see other comments about the restaurant and would say generally Chinese restaurants are all hustle and bustle, fast and furious at times. It's just how it is. Chinese people just like their food quick, without airs and graces. The knockout dish is always the Cantonese Roast Duck, not the crispy nonsense with pancakes. A taste I would never be able to do at home, so I get my fill here every time.

Atrocious service. Have been here many times as it is one of the only places serving dim sum in the area, however each visit gets worse and worse. Food is going downhill, you can taste the incredible amount of MSG used, and quality of ingredients has also declined dramatically. They also need to learn a thing or two about manners, waiters prancing about the place jumping from table to table saying they have nothing to do when our order took over an hour and a half because they apparently lost it. No real apology, a promised discount didn't materialise on our bill and just terrible attitude and service overall. Don't waste your time. 0 stars if possible, absolutely avoid this place like the plague. Absolutely atrocious.

After hearing good things about Shanghai Bay, I finally decided to give this place a go and brought a party of five for a late celebratory dinner for the Chinese New Year. The restaurant is quite reminicent of any typical restaurant I've been to during my visit to Hong Kong. As you approach the stairs landing you can literally see and smell the authenticity: sets of massive round tables, an aquarium of lethargic crustaceans in the corner, Oriental dragons on the wall, and the scent of food cooking in the kitchen wafts in the air.Food was absolutely fantastic, filling, flavourful and well worth the money spent. Everything we ordered was freshly made and piping hot (especially the dim sum). It should be mentioned that the menu was outright extensive that we actually struggled to make a selection. Each item literally begged to be tasted. Once everyone has ordered, we didn't have to wait too long before the food, served in their individual plates or bowls were placed steaming on the spinner in the middle of the table. Also, the staff were very friendly and attentive and take into account any modifications you want on the dish you ordered (my partner doesn't eat peanuts and they made sure they were removed from his kung pao chicken). Lastly, unlike most Chinese establishments, you can conveniently pay by card.Overall, Shanghai Bay is easily my new favourite Chinese restaurant in Southampton and so far in the UK.

Have afternoon tea with my birthday girl, all dim sum tastes good and quite similar as what we had in Hong Kong. Been here many times and dinner with friends!

Amazing dimsum. Always a treat. Me and my family would travel from Bournemouth to have great dimsum which a perfect lunch or chinese afternoon tea

·

A good Chinese restaurant.Instantly when you arrive to the dinning floor upstairs, a server will show you to your seats. There's also a complementary Chinese tea. Some of the prices of the dishes is slightly higher than other Chinese restaurants. The majority of the customers are Asians but don't let that intimidate you.An issue I have is that their glutinous rice with meat is actually a mixture of rices

What a fantastic find. The food is the best we've ever had and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and polite. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to our friends. It's a shame we live 200miles away but will definitely be booking again when we're back in Southampton.

Cannot wait to go back....the staff are very friendly and fingers crossed they don't get a lot of rude Cantonese customers! Ms Y is a delight, she reminds me of what good customer service used to be - suggests the house specialties and no fake smiles. Of course they will not be busy if food wasn't up to standards -- the 3 Roast Meat is very good, Singapore Fried rice is just like at home....dimsum makes us wish we can try everything! The cheung fun was tender and flavourful with the fritter inside, Pork and Chive also very good...this is why we need to go back as seems like other tables' orders all looked amazing.
