The Mitre in Southampton

Waited two hours for a Sunday roast, only to watch tables that had come in an hour and a half after us be served the exact dish we were still waiting for. Service was appalling, told many times that our food was coming shortly only for another hours wait. We were lied to at one point as staff told us that they were in the process of plating up our food, which never arrived. Extremely disappointed, worst experience I’ve had with a bar/restaurant. One star is far too kind.

Gin and lemonade was tiny, cocktail was quite small (cocktail was at least nice). Also ordered a dessert which took 45 minutes to arrive, was then cold when supposed to be warm. Another meal ordered took another 45 minutes, and then one more dessert was forgotten about entirely, took over 1 hour, then went to the bar and once reminded was made in about 10 minutes...

Mediocre. Clean tables and floor.However only a tenth of the menu was available to order. Food took an hour to arrive.It was OK. Taste OK but slightly cold.Service was 5 star though but it seems they were short staffed on the day so they did the best they could.

Called on for a few beers and dinner, checked times and was informed kitchen closes at 2100 hrs. Tried to order at 2045 to be informed that the kitchen was closed. Left totally high and dry. What an awful experience. How do they get away with such poor service.What awful management. The company needs to sort this out and start by a change in local managementAs a follow up to my previous, I contacted the pub and I’m happy to say that the complaint has been resolved to my complete satisfaction.

Customer service was horrible and manger Sophie didn't bill me correctly. While billing I did showed my student ID card for the discount but she didn't apply it. Later, I went back to clarify the same and she apologized but right after that she spoke regarding the issue to her teammate and laughed about it. My friend standing there overheard the conversation.Southampton is a friendly city but unfortunately this place has no good customer service especially for outsiders/tourist.

Went to Mitre today, staff were polite and friendly, specially the young gentleman who helped me to place the order online. Food prices are very reasonable and quality was good but simple.Only downside was that it took a very long time to get the food and Mitre wasnt very busy. Also no cutlery at the table untill we asked for it!

I visited the Mitre last week with my friends to watch the football. Such a great atmosphere, staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was great value for money and was served to use speedily despite how busy it was. All in all a great visit and will be returning very soon!

What an absolutely brilliant restaurant! We went for Christmas lunch and it was sublime. The food was great, the service was great, the atmosphere was great and everyone who works there is so lovely. Plus, they have ski shots so what’s not to love! The Mitre rocks my socks! Thank you x

Just wanted to pass on our gratitude to James for the other evening, We came in a little later than we were meant to, Our table was perfectly layed up, We were offered drinks and were given full table service, James went above and beyond presentation of the food and drinks was fantastic, It is the service you would expect from a high end / pricier restaurant.We will be back again soon for the great service!!

Why take table bookings when you know you don't have 80% of the menu in stock. Such a disappointment!! My friend and I booked a table 1 week in advance being made to believe it will be very busy. I am on a particular diet and can only eat certain things. This wasn't even valid when the entire steak menu was off and the only "counting calories" meal available was a jacket potato, when served with just a mouthful of salad. When questioned, the staff replied, the steak is popular..we have very little lettuce and no onion. My reply was.. "Sainsbury's is nxt door!" The jacket potato was served with no butter and when requested we received something that was not butter but what you would find in a happy shopper tub half melted then set again. My gin was served with the tonic poured right to the top of the glass on my behalf with no confirmation and it tasted like I had a glass of tonic for £4.45 having to hook most the ice out...digging 4 the gin lol pffft. Our 1st impression a few weeks ago with a fried sharing platter brought us back on this occasion only to be very disappointed. Don't take bookings when you have no food to serve. We will be eating else where next time.
