The Anchor Inn in Swale

Visited today with four friends for lunch, nice old fashioned pub, good beer and nice food, the lady who served us both with drinks and food was very friendly and good humoured, however, the young male behind the bar was less than friendly, completely lacking in customer care and service, if I didn't know better, I would think he didn't like serving "non regulars", or he didn't want to be there. My friends and I meet up once a month, usually there are seven of us, and we try different places and we are never shy in spending money. I am sorry to say, because of the young man's attitude we did not leave a tip, and this is the first time my group were unanimous about not leaving a tip and I doubt if we will return, which is a shame because this is a lovely pub with nice food. Customer skills play a vital role when working in this environment, I hope the management take note of my comments and have a word with this young man.

Lovely bustling pub with character and charm. Good food and beer to suit all pockets.

Staff usless slow had no idea what they were doing overcrowded no atmosphere very expensive for what it was food was average not worth the money waited ages for it never go back advise people be patient give yourself lots of time and mabey eat before you get there worst pub ever

Booked a table here for lunch. Been for drinks in the garden previously, but not inside or for food.Nice welcoming bar area and good service. Plenty of locals around, so a popular place.Good choice of beer and tasty food on offer. Loaded chips have Brie on them…. Brie! 😻

Unfriendly and Unwelcoming - Would have left it at NO STARS if allowedWent on Sunday 6/2/22 for a lunch we had booked 2 days in advance, checked the place was dog friendly and told it was - no mention we would have to sit anywhere special.Arrived at the pub and couldn't see anywhere to check in for our table, spoke to one person taking food out to another customer and was told quite rudely that she didn't know where to book in as she works in the kitchen!!. We went into the restaurant area and saw someone with a reservations book so approached her and spoke to her and was just ignored, Waited for someone else to appear and told her we had reservations, she didn't ask for our name but told us to just wait over there and she would come over shortly and pointed to the door!!, she eventually came over and just pointed to a table in the bar and said we have to sit there as we have a dog. Didn't ask our name or check our reservation in.We were told to sit at a long bench set out for 7 people (there were only 3 of us), we saw another small table with a reservation on it and thought that must have been ours, but couldn't get anyone's attention to ask. We sat down on uncomfortable wooden stools and a window seat far to high for the table. We waited as this is where we were told to sit and after 5 minutes no members of staff came over to us so we decided to leave.The pub wasn't overly busy, the two bar staff appeared to be more interested in speaking to people at the bar who had already been served and completely ignored us.I see from other reviews this is not normal for the Anchor but even if the staff were having a bad day your customers should not have to be subjected to terrible customer service and zero manners from the staff - fortunately it did us a favour as we rediscovered another pub we had not been to for a while which was amazing.

Cosy old pub serving generous portions of good traditional pub grub, plus some interesting specials.

Have dined here for lunch on many occasions. This pub never fails to serve great fish and chips and lovely house wine. Theres plenty of choice for meat eaters and veggies too. Staff are pleasant and cheerful and food served swiftly....just what u need when cold and hungry. Thoroughly recommend it

Really lovely old pub. First time here. Ales were lovely. Had a lovely lunch. Very reasonably priced food. Friendly staff.Update to above keeping the five stars! Evening meal and drinks with family this time. Super food. Steak and Kidney pudding was to die for. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, veggie as well. Cask ales perfect. Recommended.

What a great pub, so much history with low ceilings, wear a hard hat if your tall. Dogs welcome inside and out, good menu and selection of beverages, covered seating at the rear in the garden area, with the use of a waterproof tentvery helpful and friendly staff.
