Came across this pub while searching for a Sunday roast after walking around Lower Chute.Attractive setting, friendly staff, community feel. The traditional interior was just what we needed in a January afternoon.Highlight: enormous open fire. While many old-fashioned pubs now set smaller stoves or ranges in their fireplaces, this one had stuck with the original - and we benefitted from it

Nice pub, has been refurbished in places since last visited. Unfortunately the beef in yorkshire pudding would have been better with a thicker gravy as the gravy was too watery making the base of the yorkshire very soggy turning into mush. The roast potatoes was over cooked too. Sorry ... dessert was very nice though x

This must be maybe our TENTH BIG FAMILY Christmas 🎄 Lunch gathering at the Hatchet Inn, Lower Chute. Idyllic, iconic English Inn, beautiful setting. Warm welcome 🙏 much appreciated in these COVID times. Excellent 👌 menu choices…. My first Turkey 🦃 and Christmas pud of the year. Very tasty few pints 🍺🍺🍺 of Timothy Taylor’s. Strongly recommend… COVID willing… we’ll be back ✊

I love the charm of the place. Being from the US I wanted to see a village. The straw roof is fascinating and the people were ever so friendly.

The location of the inn is lovely, it is full of character and good ales The room is ok, very hard bed. But the worse part was we were asked the night before what time we wanted breakfast, we stated 8am. Turned up at 7.55, the inn was not open. We waited until 8.15 but still no show of staff, so no breakfast. Very poor

I would have given this a 5 star review.. however a huge roaring fire going on when it's not even cold outside?! Didnt make sense...Made for uncomfortable eating. However the food was amazing. Will go again .. only if no fire.

Modest feel to the pub, but fantastic meal. Excellent vegetarian curry. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended!! 👌👌👌

Beautiful pub with a pleasant and sunny outdoor area. Service was pretty good. However, the food was poor. Ordered a steak special which arrived over cooked and swimming in a cream sauce that had not been reduced, had very little flavour but was full of whole (and almost inedible) peppercorns. Our other food was all fairly average but quite expensive for pub grub and quite disappointing.A real shame about the food as locals seemed to rate the place highly.Definitely a great garden for a drink but wouldn’t recommend for dinner.
