Dropped in for lunch and was very pleased with the surroundings and staff.Nice comfortable decor and seating (watch out for the centres of the seats dipping as you sit!) Staff were friendly and not overly attentive.Toilets upstairs were small but clean and private. There were more downstairs too. There are seating areas on each side as you go in as well as further back and I believe there was an outdoor area. We were happy with the prices we paid for our food - a baguette and a jacket potato. Would have accepted less cheese on the potato but hey-ho. Boyfriend said pint was a bit pricier than he's used to paying but I think the cost of the baguette compared with what you'd pay elsewhere more than evened that out.

Disappointing foodLovely outside seating and atmospheric olde world interior. Pleasant service butā¦.The ploughmanās sandwich came on dry white bread. No spread/mayo. The pickle was pleasant but overpowered the grated medium cheddar and ham. Came with crisps and no garnish. Could have been so much better, and a real ploughmanās is not a sandwich! The Tavenerās chicken was dried out, obviously left standing for much too long. The ālashings of sauceā was all dried up. Careful what you order!

After our visit yesterday, we were very upset, after being served black burnt charcoal roast potatoes. The response from waiter was, he would rustle up some more. Which were still partly burnt too. We will not be visiting again. Also told friends to stay away too.

The staff we're very kind and courteous and extremely efficient an the food was lovely and beautifully served. Also staff were very helpful with myself as i have struggle to walk with crutches and was offered use of a ramp and assistance with doors etc. Altogether a great experience, which we look forward to visiting again.

Had friends down from Newcastle, so picked the Duke as my husband always says its the best steak hes ever had, everything was perfect except the husbands steak. Asked for medium rare but came back medium well. Explained to the waitress who spoke to the chef and all was sorted without hesitation. Next one was perfect, loved the fact the chef came out and even apologised. Our guests loved it and so did we, so needless to say, we will return again. Also a big shout out to the Team, bar staff, waitresses etc.

we came here a couple weeks ago and enjoyed the food but when we got to ordering dessert, we ordered and it didnāt come for around 45 minutes so we payed and left. today we gave it another try and went out for motherās day , really enjoyed my food however my mothers food was burned and cold the second she started eating. bathrooms also arenāt the cleanest. however waiters and waitresses are very nice and pleasant.

I went in with my 4 year old twins for lunch and was delighted with the service and food. We were served by Jackie who was so friendly and excellent with my children. The tables were well spaced and clean. There is an excellent choice of children's meals and large portions. The meal comes with desert and drinks for five pounds, the staff even brought a little jug of gravy for my daughter to have with sausages just because they thought she might like it even though it isn't advertised with it. A really nice touch. The food that I could see being served around looked large portioned and presented well. The toilets were clean and fresh. I will definitely be returning as a regular with and without children. Excellent services with a friendly atmosphere. I would recommend to all.

My husband and my self enjoyed our visit. The food was excellent. My husband had Crispy Katsu Chicken for starters [which was very tasty and beautiful presentation]. Then for mains i had Taverner's Chicken and he had the Rump Steak with pepper sauce. Both were very tasty. Finally i had Sticky Toffee Pudding. Compliments to the chef (Which we found out was the Landlord 'Blair' - as he was in the kitchen on his own all day.
