My first order - was outstanding best indian food ive had in years from the "new" kings Gurkha. Told all my friends and family about how good it was. Second order - kinda embarrased about how much i raved about it. Usual "brown in tray" as you would expect from any other indian. Dissapointed that standards have slipped so quickly. Also hadnt realised it was just the Guffa Raja but rebranded and not as good. 3rd and final try TBC......

This is by far the best curry house we have ever been too! As a regular customer, can never fault the food or service. Would highly recommend.

Alas, Traditional British Indian Food, I know it well...Being a brummie I could argue that I know good Indian food when I see and taste it. Gufaa Raja knows how to prepare Traditional British Indian food. It prepares it well. It is a plush, spacious venue, excellent for groups. It offers umpteen menu choices from supposedly all over India (I think Afghanistan was mentioned on the menu too).Traditional British style Indian food just doesn’t cut In anymore for me. It is a muddle of flavours with very little difference from one dish to the next.Kent needs to look to the big cities which now are beginning to offer a refreshing change: Streatery, Regional Indian and fusion restaurants. That’s where I feel places like Gufaa Raja should be progressing.

Apparently this was voted one of the best indians in Kent, unsure why.

This was our first time at Gufaa Raja and we really enjoyed it. The menu was different to a typical Indian with a wide variety of choice. The lamb was especially good - well spiced and tender. Would definitely recommend to order the prawns as a starter :) We will be returning!!

Order a take out from here last night. The pilau rice had a thick black hair in it and this isn’t the first time, a year ago we had one in the salad but we know there can always be one mistake. The prawn were rubbery and over cooked and they lastly got our order wrong despite always confirming. They always forget the green salad that comes with the tikka dishes. Won’t be coming back here for a third chance.

We've been eating at Gufaa Raja for 13 years since moving to Kings Hill. Great food, great service and good atmosphere especially on a Saturday evening. The menu offers a good choice for all.

Clearly the positive reviews are written by the owners themselves or friends/family.First off, staff were very rude. I will give credit to the receptionist as she at least greeted us and was friendly. The waiters looked like they genuinely did not want to be there, always moody and didn’t smile. If we asked a question we got stared at hostilely before they answered with the same grumpy, blunt tone.Secondly, there was barely any customers. Staff take their time to serve despite there being only two/three tables filled at a time.Thirdly, so despite this we get a 10% service charge put on top. For what service??? I felt like they didn’t even want customers there. I wouldn’t have minded if they weren’t so rude.Food was adaquate but hit and miss depending what you ordered.Buffet seemed a good idea but waiters seemed agitated when you ordered more than once which is what a buffet is all about. Bearing in mind we didn’t even order a lot as it felt like staff avoided customers or were difficult to talk to.I don’t like leaving bad reviews but hope this is passed on to a manager, as we experienced this with three staff members last night.Sadly won’t be returning simply because of the service.

Great food, however..... Recently spent a lot more money than usual due to size of our party and noticed the 10% service charge was a significant amount. I asked the owner/manager to reduce this down and this descended into a very unpleasant situation in which I was made to feel uncomfortable. I tried to point out how much we had spent and surely the service charge was discretionary but unfortunately this ended up in an unsavoury exchange of words and I was told my custom was not needed. This is crazy and shows how much the management only care about every last penny they can squeeze from you. The biggest loe is for them as I will now take my custom elsewhere and advise all others to do the same.I only want to support businesses who actually care and do not rely on wanting to screw you over for every last penny. Very short sighted and I hope the owners one day learn from this.
