The Old Rectory in Tonbridge and Malling

Awful.Poor quality of food. Some rude staff which lets the other staff down. In the last few times we have been , they seem to not have the full menu which is understandable given the current climate, but they àlso close early. Without warning after you booked a table making you rush your meal. It would be better customer service for those who have booked to be contacted regarding the restaurant having to close early, rather than reading a sign as you enter the place. Food was kids portion sizes but paid main meal, 6 chips for an adult main is a joke. One staff member admitted that she couldnt make the coffee using the machine and she was right.... but still wanted to charge us even though they were vial and argued with me at the time. This place used to be a good family pub, gone downhill and I wont be returning again. They have had a few chances, you may get one decent experience in 5, its disappointing.

Lovely big pub with loads of parking (be sure to log your registration on the terminal once inside!) I haven't eaten here so I can't comment on the food they serve but as part of the Greene King group you'll most likely know what to expect, friendly staff and in my experience good service.

Just been for Mother’s Day meal, we decided to go as the last time we had a meal there in 2019 it was delicious, well this time it was a disaster, couldn’t get the drink order right had to go back twice, then waited 25 minutes for some garlic bread and soup! Then the portion of the scampi and chips, put it this way it was kids size portion 6 chips and about 7 pieces of scampi 🤔 my husband even asked and said is this a kids portion?? She just laughed it off as if it was a joke! Well the food was a joke!Will not be going back 👎🏻

My friend and I regularly have lunch at the Rectory and for the last 2+ years have experienced Maria’s excellent service…she goes that extra mile to help us enjoy our lunch! Albeit on occasions food delivery’s are not always completed to the full she will organise something to cover the missing item! Truly an outstanding member of the team! Thank you Maria 👍🏼

So we have been going on and off to the old rectory for the past 4 years. As said by others, it really is a magnificent building and does have a nice atmosphere. What really does let this place down is the service and the food. There has been a change of management and there have been some improvements. You can have a great meal and great service, which is also reflected in some of the reviews. The problem is that this is very inconsistent and for every great meal, you are going to get a few mediocre ones.We did attend for dinner tonight and our drink order was taken at the table by a very polite waitress. After 30 minutes we still had not received our drinks. We overheard the staff informing another table that there was a one hour wait for food due to a shortage of staff. This does happen and is unavoidable which I understand. However, it would have been good to known this when we sat down and we also booked the table late in the afternoon. They would have known at that time about the staff shortage and shouldn’t have taken the booking. Also informing us upon arrival would have allowed us to make an informed choice and saved us wasting half an hour as we were hungry. Two other tables tables left before ordering as they were unhappy with the wait time/service and we decided to leave as well.Every now and then we do go to the Old Rectory and are reminded of the reasons why we stopped going. We will probably be back, but not for sometime. It seems such a shame, but there are better options available locally (within the same chain) such as Wealden Hall and The Pippin.

Had a wonderful birthday lunch for my Mum last week, with my cousins. The good was delicious and hot, and the service very attentive and friendly (thanks Melanie). Excellent value too!

We booked a table for 18.30 and arrived at 17.45. Had a drink in the bar then went to get our table. A sign was there saying Food would stop being served at 7pm!! The waitress who came first was friendly and we ordered our starters and we requested roast dinners for our main. She came back and said they had sold out of roasts so we said we’ll look at the menu and let her know in a bit. Starters came and were lovely… no complaints there… then we waited … and waited … and waited! Another waitress came to collect our plates and went again…… and we waited some more …. No one came to take our order for the mains. At 7.45 we went to the bar to pay the bill. I asked the barmaid in charge is it normal to just have starters then not be asked for mains. She threw it back at us asking why we didn’t order our mains with our starters…. My son explained the situation. She then said about being short staffed but offered no apology….. we paid for the starters and took my granddaughter for a Mac Donald’s instead. Very poor service and unnecessary attitude from the staff member when asking for an explanation. Won’t be back!!!

Bottom line: customers don't like being lied to.Incredible venue, ample parking space, lovely interior, fantastic menu. Unfortunately, we were repeatedly told our 3 kids desserts would be "just a minute"... after 40 minutes of waiting we were fed up of being fobbed off and left. I'm baffled how 1 scoop of ice cream and 2 children's fruit salads can take over 40 minutes to prep. 🤷🏽‍♀️ADDENDUM: We were phoned the day after posting this review by a member of staff and told a manager would call us back... 1 month later nothing! Downgraded from 2 to 1 star. AVOID!

Lovely pub, hard working new landlord and food has improved greatly, lovely fish and chips, friendly staff, loads of parking, great music nights as well

Would never go there in my life ... the childrens pizza is a Chicago town pizza that is over cooked and when I say cooked I mean microwaved as you can't cut through half of it as I had to ... you'd think being a childrens pizza they would cut it before bringing it out ... the adults lasagne was disgusting aswell greasy and by the looks of it over microwaved and medium asked for steak was more like rare not even medium rare and the apparent manager was not professional in the slightest not even a sorry .
