Really loved this pub! The outdoor terrace was just beautiful, and so was the interior. Exposed oak beams, just like the Edgecumbe Hotel further down the road with a nifty bar. Would have loved to spend more time inside, but alas had to return back. I would come back. The food was brilliant.

Nice pub with pleasant atmosphere in the old town...

Lovely evening out with the family. Good food at reasonable prices. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and the staff are incredibly friendly. They are dog friendly too which is an added bonus.

Waited over one and half hours for food. Service was awful.Ended up leaving before we got our food. What should have been an enjoyable birthday meal was totally ruined.Beautiful pub. Great history. Just lack of customer service. No explanation as to delay in food.

Had a few drinks at the compasses last night for my birthday and was greeted by the new manager Robin (or Robyn!) who was honestly so welcoming from the get go. I hadn't been to the pub in about 6 months and when I walked in, the new interior design of the place was amazing! I also met his little daughter Holly who was such a delight and a very polite young girl. I used to be a frequent compasses goer and the feel of the pub has completely changed. It just has a welcoming vibe from the minute you step into the place and staff are so friendly, especially Lloyd who was our server for the evening. I missed the pub quiz this time round but I will definitely be attending the next!

Situated on the edge of a small park with entrance straight of of it, lies on the edge of what is known as the mount Sion District on Tunbridge Wells. An upmarket very attractive area that has grown over the last few years as the migration from London has gathered pace. Very attractive intimate interior with log fires in several of the small bars. With extensive outside seating area. It's one of the jewels in the green king estate.Attracts most of its trace from the surrounding community. Service is good. Beer kept will with a number of real ales.Food is good without being exceptional. Pretty standard fare but well cooked. I would not say a gastro pub. But very good local with good ambience and very well situated

Despite stopping in just before closing, Robin was so accommodating to my partner and me. He was warm and friendly, as we had a long chat before we left. Highly recommend, will be back much more frequently going forward.

Good pub with a great atmosphere. We came here as a rather large group on a Christmas pub crawl. Quite spacious inside so it wasn't hard to fit us all in, even if we did take up half the pub!Good selection of drinks behind the bar and on tap, and pretty large seating area put front, although it was a bit too cold to be using that!

Excellent find hidden away! Am new to the local area and stumbled upon The Compass whilst having a walk. Lovely to find a place that didnt have a football playing or a jukebox blaring out. Really enjoyed my drink in a very chilled pub with a couple of friends by the fire. Place has lots of character. Lovely nibbles too! Been back a couple of times since my first visit in October and always loved being there. Friendly staff and clean toilets!! Thanks :)

Visited last night and a big improvement. The ridiculous one way system is gone so the tension has too. The upper bar has nice tuck and roll seating and the new manager was very friendly and welcoming.I have never seen Corona beer on tap outside of America, so another n live addition to the extensive range of ales and lagers. Will be back to try the food
