The Rye Bakery in Tunbridge Wells

We went for lunch during the week. TWe ordered two very substantial and tasty sandwiches with accompanying drinks which came to £20 which I was happy with. Service was pleasant and quick. Would recommend!

Excellent, artistic bakery and patisserie with good range of coffee and tea options. Limited seating though. Also, does incredibly good bacon sandwiches!

Cycled here from London for a midway pit stop and it was amazing food. Had a vegetarian samosa and peach or apricot pastry which was the perfect mid ride snack. Pricey but defo worth it if you fancy a treat. Super friendly staff. Not much of any bike parking space is worth noting but when I went it was quiet so left bike just by a table outside.

I live relatively close to the bicycle bakery, so when we moved in we were so excited to have a bakery on our doorstep. We tried them on multiple occasions and found the coffees to be sub-par and pastries to be burnt and dry. Despite this, we really wanted to support local business so we went back multiple times, even buying bread, which sadly again was burnt. The slow service and staff were also not great.So recently my friend wanted to try them out, so I thought I'd give them one last go. It was a Saturday morning, so relatively busy, so I asked at the counter if it would cause a problem if my friend was bringing a pram. They said this was fine.My friend arrived with her new born baby (who by the way slept for the duration). As soon as she sat down and maneuvered the pram next to our table, the manager/owner leapt over to us and said "can you move the pram so it is not obstructing the bread?" His tone was... weirdly aggressive, patronizing, and kind of shocking. We were both dumbfounded because it wasn't blocking the bread, but we shifted it further away anyway and nearby tables were accommodating to us to allow for the pram. My friend and I exchanged looks as if "why is that man being so rude to a new mum and baby?" Especially as I had checked it was OK to bring a pram.Next he brought over my friends tea, he had to lean over the bottom part of the pram to pop the tea on the table, but stood there and said "I am NOT leaning over THAT pram". Again, we were dumbfounded at his tone which the table next to us noticed again. The message was 'you are not welcome here'. He was in no danger of hurting the baby but my friend awkwardly took the tea. My friend didn't even finish her tea, we just left as soon as possible. My friend left embarrassed of being a new mum and I was embarrassed for taking her there.The week after, we thought we'd check the reviews and found an exact copy of our experience with a pram and more pinpointing the rude manager/owner. I even saw that he had written replies to customers on here abusing them further, that's just not good business.Extremely sad to have to turn our backs on this business. Genuinely hoping that the owner examines what happened here and in the other various bad reviews, because with a few small but vital changes this could be better.

A gem of a find! I only went in for takeout coffee but the cinnamon rolls and soda bread looked too good to resist (and tasted amazing!) My new fave bakery

First time visiting and sadly will not be returning. Whilst the bread and coffees are lovely the customer service is just awful. I popped in to meet a friend with my tiny new born baby in the pram. The comments and tone from the manager about me having a pram inside the cafe left me feeling like a massive inconvenience and seriously unwelcome, it was really embarrassing for me and I won't be returning, which is a shame as I like to support local cafe businesses.

Amazing bakery serving artisan breads and baked goods on site... Lovely and chilled atmosphere within and equally lovely attentive staff... Great place to go to relax in over a coffee and pastry... Highly recommended!!!

Super service, really friendly and attentive.Brunch, cinnamon brioche and coffee all top quality.It’s not that comfortable though - hard seats and a bit sparse in there.

Wish I could give 10 STARS the bread and cakes are always fresh and wonderfully tasty, staff very welcoming friendly and always happy to explain information about the food.But I asked for a special treat for my wife's birthday a Paris Brest which is her favourite French pastry ! Well Jamie created a most amazing yummy Paris Brest which brought back fond memories of our trips across the Channel, absolutely perfect. Nice friendly place to chill out in the middle of the day & have reasonable coffee and baked goods. These guys are passionate at what they do clearly. Love the little Bike inspired signs around the place.Update 2019:This place is clearly amazing and a gem of a find on the less salubrious side of Tunbridge Wells (come on council check it out!!). The guys here are serious about baking and making amazing sweet things - I come here every week for my fix of sourdough loaf. The pastries and cakes are amazing - I would highly recommend the cherry pie + the brownies are simply to die for!!They also do food night's - look out for a pizza night - legendary (& it sells out fast too!!!).Now the coffee is really good after owner invested in some training for in-house barista. They also sell really nice coffee beans from a funky place in Brighton (Pharmacy).
