The Dog House has a lovely setting and was what, we thought after a long dog walk a ideal place to eat, given that we have been before and enjoyed our experience. We rang prior and spoke to Steve and asked if there were available tables around half past 3 on a bank holiday Monday afternoon, he said yes feel free to pop in, to which we did. We ordered at the bar as we were sat in the dog friendly area and enjoyed our starter. After waiting 25 minutes after finishing our starter my husband asked at the bar, when ordering a second round of drinks, if our main meals would be long. They came out promptly and we asked for sauces, which didn’t come out as the waitress was preoccupied with other guests and staff. I went to the bar and asked the lady behind it if we could have the sauces to accompany our meal, explaining we had already had to ask for our mains and that the service wasn’t really fair. Please bare in mind the pub was less than a quarter full throughout the whole time we were there. As I walked away from the bar the lady behind it said to other guests ‘she should have booked a table’ I am assuming she did not want me to hear what she had said! Unfortunately for her I did! Admittedly my words to her were ‘who the hell do you think you are talking to? I don’t accept been spoken to like that behind my back and that I would like a refund and to speak to your manager!’ She stated she was the manager, I said ‘you are not fit to be a manager, you should not treat guests so disrespectfully!’ As it transpires, she was not the manager, Steve is. After prising himself away from the washing up, he came to our table. I explained the situation and he stated he was sorry and that the member of staff is under a lot of pressure, which I can understand, after all, most of us are! My problem was with his demeanour and his further statement regarding all of the hospitality industry been under the same pressure. We are fortunate enough to be able to eat out on a regular basis and have never experienced such rude, inappropriate and poor service, the pressure must simply be down to the level of service he deems appropriate from his team and the backlash they must face from paying guests who, like us, do not deem it as acceptable. We explained to him we had no issue with the food which was more than acceptable for the price and that we hd enjoyed our starters. My husband and I didn’t feel like finishing our meal after the whole scenario, my son however, he’s 12, was hungry and finished his.So in essence, if you’re quite happy to be treated like something under one’s foot, but eat nice food, the Dog House really is the place for you! Pardon the pun! Safe to say we won’t be going back and will not be recommending it to friends, family, clients and colleagues. I may however, next time my husband is in the dog house, book him a table as punishment!

We had a lovely 2 night stay at Dog House Hotel. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The hotel is fantastic. There was an iron and ironing board in our room as well as a hair dryer and fan. The kettle was clean and there was plenty of tea, coffee, sugar and milk available. We had a bath with an over head shower in the en-suit. The beds were very clean, comfortable and warm. There was also a good sized TV. Breakfast in the downstairs restaurant was delicious. There are loads of options for cooked breakfasts including vegetarian and vegan as well as a large selection of continental options. Dog House is about 7 miles from Oxford City Centre and we found a great Park and Ride option which saved us a fortune in parking charges. If you are visiting Oxford I highly recommend a stay here. You won't be disappointed.

Staff were polite and down to earth, food very good quality, service more than reasonable and the room good quality. If I were to have anything to complain about it would be that there was only really one vegetarian choice on the dinner menu (halloumi and it was very enjoyable). Breakfast was tasty and plenty of it.

Friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant did get busy at times with daytime functions and this delayed orders being taken. Having a bit of patience solved the problem.Set in a centuries old Inn, the accommodation was very comfortable and clean. Overall, very satisfied and will use again when in the area.

Second time staying here for business. Comfortable rooms. Good food. Plenty of on-site parking. Affordable rates for room and food. It also has a big beer garden but unable to use this visit due to the weather. Photo from Sept 2021.

Food was absolutely shockingly bad, veg looked “old” roast potatoes were dry, looked and tasted like they were left overs from the day before. It’s a shame because it was meant to be a Mother’s Day treat, we will never come back nor will I ever recommend it to anyone.I would have complained but a young couple with a new born baby were sat in close proximity to us eating the same meal, had I complained they would have overheard me and that would have made me and them feel uncomfortable.

A couple of months ago met friends here for a Saturday lunch and was impressed enough to come back with family on a Sunday evening.Same warm welcome from the friendly staff. Same menu, with the addition of some Sunday roast specials. Unfortunately quite a few things unavailable due to a busy lunch. Service good and reasonably quick. The starters and desserts were fair, but the mains seemed like they were left over from lunch time. The roasts; nice meat but soggy roast potatoes. The risotto had fresh fish, but the rice was more like sticky rice.I think it was a mistake to go on a Sunday evening, and perhaps if we went again all may be good, but alas I think that was enough.

Been a few times. Last time was ok but not good but thought would give them the benefit of doubt as we were quite a large party. Today's food was awful. Trio of roast. Beef not pink as advertised but well done and tough and some of it inedible. Potatoes cold cabbage stringy and carrots dry where they were cut so thinly. Did bring out a couple of bowls of fresh vegetables but these were just the same. Couldn't fault the waiting staff until the end. We were waiting for ages to request the bill and we had to get up and ask for it in the end. So sorry doghouse two strikes and your out. Another thing I'm not happy about us allowing dogs in whilst people are eating. There was a dog at the next table which kept growling and another rather large dog roaming around on its own then the owner in two occasions walked through the dining area with the dog to go outside but had to come back in the main door. Why couldn't they go out that way too instead of disturbing diners. Won't be returning again.

Really good meal, burger was excellent. Tempura prawn starter special was very tasty - should go on the main menu! Staff were lovely too.

Party of 7 food was good, well looked after by the staff. We had an issue with two of the mains which was quickly and promptly sorted by the manager without us having to make a fuss.
