Lovely staff and excellent food. The tomat and pepper soup was brilliant.

I suppose you have to manage your expectations with this hotel. If you were going there expecting cheap and cheerful, it is that. But cheap and cheerful shouldn’t mean low grade and unclean. The pipes bang, the radiator whistles, the bathroom had undergone numerous bad patchings-up, and the beds were uncomfortable leaving a lot to be desired. I had expected more for the price, and wouldn’t stay again. I had about 3 hours sleep, with the noise and the discomfort. On the plus side, the staff were nice and very helpful, hence the two stars instead of one.

Appalling behaviour by a staff member (Keith) in the bar area, he even lied to me whilst blatantly laughing out loud at me for complaining about his behaviour, he said he was the owner/Director which is a lie, his wife is!My family supported this place through the Pandemic and we are the beread and butter of establishments like this one, I am really sad to say we will not be returning because of this horrible man!Do not visit this place through fear of upset and ridicule!

We have been to The Bear three times for a meal with the same friends and the food has always been very good, the lamb dish I had was very tasty and the staff who served us very helpful and happy.

Friendly staff, clean room with a very comfy bed. Lovely dinner in the restaurant and a breakfast the next morning to set me up for the day.

Staff are good but the rooms are dusty and full of cobwebs. They haven't been missed, just never done. However the shower is probably the most disappointing with very little water flow or power. Long hair lady's don't plan on washing your hair because your need to book another night. Had 2 nights 2 different rooms with the same results. Will not stay again unfortunately.

Stay was fantastic, staff were lovely and friendly and price was good. There was a minor level of dust/spiderwebs that had been missed, and breakfast on the Saturday morning let the show down, especially considering how delicious dinner the night before, and lunch that day and breakfast the next day all were. Not sure what went wrong there, but that's pretty much the only thing which makes me put 4 instead of 5 stars. I'd definitely stay here again if I'm ever in the area again!

school reunion dinner and overnightI stayed over night on 27 November after the Alfredians Club dinner, which the Bear team ran superbly as ever at the same time as the dining room was full and the bar rocking!Your team of waitresses could not have been more, attentive. The lovely Megan looked after my end of 1 table and she was quick charming and efficient. I partucukarkyvlije that she had to be reminded to take payment for wine orders and counselled her that we old boys aren't all entirely reliable for remembering to pay!The food was delicious, and generously portioned. I was, so full by dessert I had lots of cheese left which my neighbours, devoured. Would that we still had port and cigars! I hope the whip round for the girls was generous.I stayed in room 21 which is cosy and perfectly appointed. I was, very happy though a shortage of sockets meant I had to unplug and successively plug in my phone and hearing aids to recharge both! You're doing a fab job well done

Stayed over the night for a hike from Swindon to Oxford. Didn't eat at the restaurant or bar but the room was decent enough for the price. Great shower, comfy beds etc. Would stay again if passing through
