The Hungry Horse / Lord Nelson in Vale of White Horse

Lovely Mother’s Day lunch! The staff were so friendly and helpful and it was a lovely touch to have a box of chocolates for mum on the table. My dad was unwell so couldn’t join us and the staff were so helpful and provided us with a lovely takeaway roast for him. The restaurant was fully booked but was really well organised and planned for. I’ve not been to the pub since before lockdown and must say I was really impressed today. Well, compared to the 'other' Greene King establishment in the area, the Lord Nelson delivered on prompt and friendly service and good food in an acceptable timescale. We ordered our food at 3pm and the place was quite busy. I had a simple chicken & bacon salad which was lovely. The meats were not over-cooked or dry and with a generous amount. My daughter had the Mac & Cheese with garlic bread which also tasted delicious. My little grand-daughter had tomato pasta with a corn cob, which she dropped on the floor by acident; the waitress quickly replaced it with another without being asked. Many thanks for the pleasant eating experience after a stressful day. Definitely recommend.

Great table service, lovely staff, food came out in good time and was cooked well. Have come last 3 times in last couple of months and will come back soon. Good value also.

A refreshing change:We visited last night for the first time in over two years, our past experience had been incredibly poor!!!We were greeted by Jack at the bar and he looked after us all evening, there were several occupied tables and everyone looked very happy indeed.We were not rushed, the food came to us in good time and piping hot, one check to ensure we were happy.Jack helped me decide what pudding to go for whilst he took more drinks orders at the table (going above and beyond as he could have told us to order at the bar)Clearly the management team are doing a good job and the front of house team members all looked happy in their work.Keep it up......we look forward to visiting again.

The food was lovely, staff was polite and they poured a good pint. The only problem I can see is the pool table is very expensive at £1.50 a good bit more than anywhere else.All in all it was a nice experience.

Really lovely meal for 4 people this evening even though it was a busy Saturday. Glad to see continued efforts with table cleaning. Well done everyone.

We had Christmas dinner with you. There were lots of us (!!) including 5 children. The food was delicious, the service was fab and all the extras - chocolate coins & selection boxes were appreciated. It was laid back with a great atmosphere. We NEVER go out for Christmas dinner and we were all pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed it. Loads of food & very tasty. The children’s roasts were huge! Our waiters were so kind, upbeat & helpful. We’d definitely do it again. To go back to a clean/tidy house was a bonus too and we got to spend precious time with our parents - rather than them being in the kitchen prepping/cooking all morning. Having not been here since the change of ownership, we came down after reading the recent reviews. Really impressed with the food. I had the steak and chips, washed down with the NZ Sav Blanc. Really decent! Nice to have our decent local back! We shall return!

Very friendly staff, well cooked food. Everyone in our group of 8 enjoyed their dinner.

Pub had a good atmosphere. The food took approximately 1hour but we were informed before we ordered. Staff were welcoming. Table service was a little disorganized and several minutes delay between peoples orders getting to our table.
