Bear & Ragged in Waverley

Visited this restaurant with a friend and his family to celebrate a birthday. All of the food was well cooked and presentable. For a gastro pub the prices were reasonable - a standard main being between £15-£17. Specials and steak closer to £30 per head. The atmosphere and environment were relaxed, acoustics good so that conversation was easy. Plenty of different zone indoor and outdoor.I saw a family playing cards in the foyer area, which was nice. Not a huge amount of parking, but there is space on the road outside. I would certainly go again.

My family and I wound up booking this place at the last minute after a booking error on the part of another pub - we would have missed out had we not come here. The food was sublime: all 8 of us were unanimous about that - but in addition to the amazing meals we had caring, passionate, and diligent staff who worked tirelessly and even recommended food choices when asked.It wasn't the venue we originally booked, but it turned out to be better than our first choice. Hats off to the staff!

Outstanding pub food. Perfectly cooked, high quality ingredients, imaginative and carefully selected menu. Staff were the right side of friendly and attentive.An extra plus for catering soft drinks beyond coke and lemonade!Highly recommended and we'll definitely return.

What a place. My partner and I use this as a break before heading to our respective home towns of Cambridge and Milton Keynes, so visit a few times a year. The building and decor and furnishing are beautiful and in keeping with the period property, and the service is second to none.The staff deserve a special mention, as they go above and beyond any service I’ve received to date, being what I would consider a frequent traveller.When arriving in the early hours after flying in from holiday, the staff were so accommodating with blankets for our tired selves, and ensuring our room was done first by housekeeping.A beautiful stay with the most lovely staff, the food is also pretty good! Fully recommend…

Just came back this morning after spending 2 days there. Great , clean and spacious room with great breakfast choices.Dinner was absolutely amazing and the staff super friendly and professional ( especially Alex and the 2 young ladies ) . Good wine choices also ( the Portuguese red Altano is sublime) . Would really recommend to anyone .

Absolutely lovely place to go for food & drinks.Very reasonable price, I had a duck salad and my partner had a soup for lunch and it was beautiful. Really friendly staff and very attentive.They do have 7 rooms also to stay in overnight which I do plan on having an overnight stay.

Lovely little find. Stopped here for breakfast on the way to Dorset. The staff were really friendly and polite, the inn itself is lovely in a quiet country village setting. The food was excellent too, will definitely visit again.

Had a most enjoyable delayed birthday treat at the Bear & Ragged Staff. The Staff, food, room and atmosphere were excellent. The whole experience made even better by the very friendly locals, all had a smile and hello on our walk around the village. Will return on a regular basis.

Such a beautiful place, feels like stepping back in time. Dinner was truly outstanding: we had a couple of classic English desserts that my partner had never tried before and totally blew her mind :) Our Steak Diane was perfectly-cooked quality beef with a spot-on sauce. Room was comfy with thoughtful touches.

Me and my partner, just had a fabulous weekend stay an the Bear and Ragged Staff.A first class pub that is clearly extremely well run by its manager!!!!The staff are all very professional and go the extra half mile to ensure that you enjoy your stay.The food and service were excellent.The accommodation was traditionally in keeping with the character of the premises.We shall definitely be returning!!
