The Mahaan - Fine Indian Cuisine in Waverley

Very spacious, calming lightings and comfortable chairs. The food was really tasty with many mild dishes in the menu, however the rice portions were not very generous. I particularly enjoyed the chicken Kurma.

Something of a mixed experience here. My friends and I ordered our meals and requested our usual beer and poppadoms before the meal proper. We were offered no choice so I asked whether they provided both plain and spicy types. The waiter said they did, so all three of us asked for one of each. The helpful and pleasant staff tottered off to do our bidding and returned some time later with the beer, poppadoms and the usual condiments. We quickly noticed that the plain poppadoms were either cooked the previous day or in some oil that had been overused. Accosting another passing waiter, we complained and the original waiter was summoned, who after checking that we had received what we ordered and counting the offending poppadoms twice (!) went off to get some more. Despite emphasising that it was the plain variety that we had a problem with, he duly returned with the spicy variety. We accepted our fate and munched through the new arrivals, which were fine. Starters arrived and although I found my onion bhajis a bit bland (and again perhaps not freshly cooked) the others thought theirs' OK. My main course was lamb vindaloo, which I thought excellent and I had also requested a peas pillau, which although not on the menu was also provided - it to was good. So a bit of a mixed bag but on balance, I'd be happy to return and give them another chance.

Fantastic service! I asked if the restaurant would do me the favour of making a delivery to my mother, she is 90years old and has very poor eye sight. Fortunately she lives very close to the restaurant. The restaurant does not deliver but they made an exception in my mums case.The food is fantastic and the service beyond compare. I cannot rate this restaurant more highly. 😁
