Good food, excellent service, nice garden and indoor decor.

Prices are shocking. £3 for a pint a lime and soda is a bit too much. Better go to the Goat or Hare and Hounds next door

Very busy when we got there, inside and especially outside, so I wouldn't have been surprised with slow service. I needn't have worried, service was spot on, very friendly and attentive with menus supplied and our drinks order taken almost immediately. Food was spot on as well - delivered hot and well presented. I'd say the best roast I've had since moving to St Albans, the meat was top notch, especially the beef and lamb. My wife's hake disappeared too. My favourite though was the home-made lemon posset dessert.Child, family and dog friendly, as long as you can manoeuvre your pram/buggy through the small entrance. It's an old building so lacks modern standards of access.It's not cheap with central St Albans prices on a par with central London, but we'll definitely return.

Went on Tuesday (pie day!) So tried a delicious vegan Thai pie, with top notch chips and great selection of drinks on tap. Staff were attentive and helpful. A few more plant based options would improve!

Nice pub, great garden. Only stopped in for a pint, good choice. Will definitely go back.

Went on Sunday with family. Food was nice, although the roast dinner was a smaller portion compared to other local pubs. Friendly staff.

Amazing beer selection, well priced, ciders I've never tried before (a rarity from my Time in the West Country!) And amazing bar staff who helped me find my scarf when I'd lost it. Not in the good beer guide, but it deserves deserves to be!

‘Proper’ pub, with great selection of well kept ales. Great gin selection too - with all of the correct garnishes.Mixed eating experience here. Had a great Sunday roast on one occasion and a fairly sparse experience the second time. Also a fairly meagre Ploughman’s when out with a big group of friends in the summer.Really friendly staff and excellent service earn, in my humble opinion, the pub four (verging on five) stars!

Came here on a Sunday without booking just before the kitchen shut. I ordered the beef Sunday roast and was extremely impressed. Generous portions, quality beef and a good selection of vegetables. One of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had in a long time - a bargain at £12.Cosy inside and friendly staff. Would recommend!
