J Bennett Fish & Chips in Wealden

Efficient and quick service with an order not quite on menu, friendly team running the evening's proceedings in spotless looking chippy. The proof is in the eating, and the chips were excellent. Recommend.

Disappointed and won’t be going back ordered 3 meals portions disappointing for a man’s meal more like a child’s meal now having to cook them both something else to eat

Good quality fish and chips from here and the portions are really big for the price you pay.

Great Fish & ChipsGlad I stopped! Cod was cooked perfectly, with lovely crispy batter. Chips were good as well. Cooked to order, so has to wait a bit which isn’t a problem for great tasting food.Loved the homemade tartare sauce.

Nearly a decade I’ve pass 4 fish and chip shops to come here, upon arrival I noticed things had changed… could not tell the difference between the medium cod or large cod, and average to poor quality at best. Skinny, off colour, not a single nice white flake in any of our 4 pieces of cod. And as for the pathetic pot of half a teaspoon (if that) of tartare sauce… never again. Just a shame new owners buy a good place and ruin it with inferior products…

Oh dear! oh dear! oh dear!Why did Ralph have to retire? The fish and chips we had the other evening from the new owners of Bennett was nothing like it used to be.Both the portions of cod we had were tail ends and, as a result, the flesh of the fish was very thin, so thin it was probably thinner than the batter - no thick and flaky cod here. On top of which, both portions were over cooked.I don 't know what Ralph did with his tail ends but not once, over the years, did I ever have one dished up to me - I suspect he threw them out. He certainly did not serve them up to his customers.The chips were better - but not a lot - smallish and somewhat dry and shrivelledI did phone the manager to express my views and, to be fair, she did offer to give me a refund but, stupidly perhaps, I did not take up her offer.This may be a sample of one and things might improve but I, for one, will not risk going back.

I am a customer of 14 years and very disappointed in my weekly take-away since Fissh have taken over.I will not give up just yet and will give the new owners time to adjust and get into a new rhythm. Hopefully the following constructive criticism will help the new owners not lose me as a loyal customer:1. The new cardboard cartoons used to serve the fish and chips are an environmental waste - they cannot be recycled when they are covered in cooking oil2. The chips were luke warm with some cold chips interspersed, chipped too small therefore resulting in dry, chewy chips.3. The fish was very small but the price remained the same. Please don’t replace quality fish with expensive branded packaging.4. There is no need for a slice of lemon, sprig of parsley and a carton of tartare sauce with every portion. If I want this I will order it.It is pointless keeping the Bennett’s name and serving Fissh quality. If I wanted Fissh quality I would have gone to Fissh.

I have been going to Bennett’s for years. It is the best fish and chips in SE of England. Always so friendly and everything cooked. Quality is consistent and excellent. Anybody who lives in the area, give it a try.

Popped in yesterday (Friday 18th March @ 17;00) as I had just finished my shopping in Morrisons and really fancied fish and chips. These were the worst fish and chips that I had bought, the fish was really dry and was mostly batter as if it had been reheated from lunchtime. After a couple of mouthfuls I threw it in the bin.Won’t be going back here again 😞😞
