Strange how the Assistant Manager (Valentin Scarlat) gives a 5 star review? I wonder how many others reviews are staff? I give them one star as they can do deep fried well - but that’s it. Microwaved kids pizza is not good. The Chequers could be amazing - I do try it every six months to see if it improves, always disappointed. Come on Green King - sort it out, then locals might go, at the moment we walk to Premier Inn or drive to Buxted/Uckfield.

We had a two night stay, travelling to Love Supreme during the day. Room 6 was nice and comfortable if not quite warm. Unfortunately the shower was barely usable so we resorted to having baths. One of our towels was stained (looked like poo!) but we were informed they were burn marks from ironing (really!!)We had an evening meal on the Friday but regretfully the food was quite basic and not well cooked. The breakfast choices were good - had a Full English one day which was nice. Second day we had Eggs Royale and Scrambled Egg with smoked salmon. The former came out looking good but the Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was inedible- over cooked and far too dry. Not sure who cooked it knew how to do it!The breakfast area was unkempt with a number of items unavailable until requested but the staff were very pleasant and dealt with the situation. However, it would have been nice to see dirty plates etc moved from the buffet area and enough items, including cups readily available to keep up with demand. Nobody seemed to be around to check until asked.Overall, not a bad stay but there are signs of wear and tear which could do with some attention and the staff could be better trained.

Super clean. Really nice evening meal and breakfast. Great selection of beers and ciders. Fantastic short stop over

Amazing breakfast served this morning at The Chequers. Lovely staff, many thanks to Charlotte (altough a bit camera shy 🤣), excellent English breakfast and coffee served in a quiet and clean restaurant. I strongly recommend to pay this place a visit!

Booked a table for Friday evening dinner. It took over 20 mins for our order (drinks and food) to be taken. It was over an hour and a half before our meal arrived.I ordered a veggie burger which I had to send back. It was so dry and tough I physically couldn't get my teeth or a knife through it. No apology, just the offer to order something else.Husband ordered a beef burger which was so under cooked and full of gristle he couldn't eat it (which is saying something given he's put up with my cooking for years). To be fair, the manger brought the bill over and apologised and didn't charge for the mains but I'd still recommend anyone give this place a wide berth if your looking for food. Definitely not somewhere we'll be trying again.

Dessert was the best bit 🍨😋 super delicious!! Good value for money, and although a little slow…. very friendly service.

Had a really lovely meal here. The staff were really friendly and kind. Lots of special little touches for my daughter's birthday- balloons and singing happy birthday etc. The food arrived quickly and all of our meals were delicious. Will come back

Arriving late after a long journey, I managed to settle in quite easily.A very characteristic building with a stunningly exposed timber roof in the main restaurant. The extremely deep well is interesting; positioned in the heart of the building; I dare you to take a peek 😁Food was really nice; would recommend the crispy chicken in a basket 😋The bed in my room was super comfy, although being high off the ground I had to climb up into it; I thought my bed at home was high 😂The floorboards in my room creaked, a true feature of old buildings ❤️, something you don't get with new build properties ☹️.Full English Breakfast to start the day on a high, simply wonderful.Staff were great and very friendly. All in all a great experience. 👍

Extremely disappointing. The meal had so obviously been pre-plated and had started drying out. Meat was tough and grisly. Barely any gravy. Veg over cooked and dry. Fish fried in what tasted like old oil. Not hot and fresh.Sorry, won't be returning.
