The Eight Bells in Wealden

The garden is the perfect spot on a hot summer day, after a country walk. Shady trees and a cool drink.The interior and exterior have been transformed since my last visit.Garden overlooks fields.Great service and independently owned. Jevington is a pretty village.Recommend booking in advance, because it's popular.

I reviewed this pub 4 years ago. It’s now under new management and is quite transformed so I’ve deleted my old review. The pub has been transformed inside and out. The interior is light modern and airy and there’s now a large marquee in the garden. The food is imaginative and excellent - though we thought a bit more thought seem to go into the starters than the main courses. The servings are generous and we had no room for dessert. There is an excellent selection of draught ales and cider and a good wine list. The pub has become justifiably very popular and booking ahead is essential. The staff were lovely and friendly too.

Eastbourne (05/06/22)Having been to the Eight Bells for the first time just a couple of months ago, we have now been back 3 times. A great example of what a pub should be… friendly, welcoming staff, good atmosphere and great pub food. A small menu which is a sign of locally sourced food and a great chef cooking everything perfectly. The chef even accommodated the special requirements of one of the people in my party, altering and cooking a separate dish that wasn’t even on the menu. It was important to them that we had a good meal and an enjoyable time… a quality lacking in most other pubs/restaurants. They even had treats for the new puppy in our family so even the dog had a great time! A shining example of what a meal out should be. We will definitely be back again. Thank you!! :)

Visited on a Friday lunchtime (8/4/2022). The recently updated bar area is now the restaurant with table service. Lunch was very good with a good pub menu. There's a good selection of local and guest ales on the pumps.The new outdoor bar and kitchen will work well in the summer months with the usual walkers from Butts brow and the downs.Was nice to speak with the owner over lunch which added a personal touch.

Outstanding food with a well thought out menu. They’ve just opened outdoor Barn and Grill and had fantastic spread of food. Tomahawk steak, butterflied mackerel, garlic yoghurt marinade lamb skewers. All with a stunning view. They had some decent guest beers on. Great to see a pub that is probably run + managed, and service with a smile.

Very nice afternoon in the garden. Had Burger and fries. Was £14. Beer was around £4.30 a pint for long man. Food was very good though and gardens have been done nicely with an outside grill.

Fantastic meal and super friendly helpful staff, from our arrival to the time we left. Amy served us and was brilliant.

Love going to the 8 Bells pub, really great stop off after a long country walk even with muddy boots and your dog in tow. Good food, great menu selection and recently had a face lift with the inside. Warm and comfy outdoor space with throws and cushions for added warmth... Good service and friendly team of staff. 😁

Never judge a book by it's cover and that is certainly the case with The Eight Bells pub. What looks like an unassuming pub, along a country road, in a tiny village, turned out to be one of the best culinary experiences I've had for a long time.The menu will leave you spoilt for choice. We opted for the stuffed chicken and the haddock pie, which was one of the specials. As well as having the scotch egg for starters. My Lord, all of it was amazing, great produce used throughout, large portions and just great flavours.The staff are so friendly and attentive and we had the pleasure of meeting Phil, the owner, who made the experience even more enjoyable and topped off a great experience.Would highly recommend, even if you just stop by for a drink, but I am sure you will stay for the food!👌🏿

Excellent. What a very unexpected but extremely pleasant experience this was.Excellent staff. Excellent food. A beautifully landscaped garden.The Moroccan lamb filo pastry pie with feta and olive salad (£14) and curried lentil puff pastry pie with chickpea salad (£13) were absolutely delicious and well worth the visit alone.And pints under a fiver including a locally produces lager!!!The chips are amazing!All of the staff were friendly, welcoming, helpful, knowledgeable, attentive and efficient.A lot of thought has clearly gone into creating a very pretty and comfortable outside space.Head and shoulders the best beer garden I've been in for as long as I can remember.A really lovely afternoon was spent here after a long walk in the amazing surrounding countryside.Well worth a a visit. I'll be back for sure.Thank you. Couldn't fault our visit here.
