We had a lovely Summer dinner sitting out by the play area. Our little one had a great time playing there whilst waiting for our meal. The owner &manager, Annie, went out of her way to assist us, especially with our various dietary requirements! All diets catered for! So kind. Staff were all very helpful and the food arrived very promptly. A well thought-out menu with some quirky touches. Our meals were delicious and copious and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Yummy desserts. Thank you so much. We will definitely be recommending The Piltdown Man to all our friends&family.

Every month the Piltdown Man host our monthly meet for Sussex RS Owners Club. We couldn’t ask for a better venue. The food is excellent, the service is very fast and the team are extremely friendly!

Absolutely terrible. If there was a choice for 0 stars I would select that option. Atmosphere was as cold as a refrigerator. Food was inedible. If you close a salad, only expect lettuce, cucumber and a few tomatoes. Not worth paying a penny for let alone £13. If it was a chef that prepared this food they need sacking. Service was very slow.

The staff was extremely warm and friendly and lots of fun to chat with. The food was good and flavourful although the portion sizes were slightly to large for my own liking. I had the fish and chips and it was amazing. The menu wasn’t massive which I like because then I’m not conflicted between different options. I might try and win on the wings Wednesday and get the cash prize. Overall I really loved it and hope to go there again with friends.

Absolutely amazing food, lovely staff. Great outdoor seating area.Strongly recommend the Pil Pil Prawns…. Some of the best I’ve had outside Spain. The chef really knows what they are doing! 10/10

Fast becoming one of my favourite local pubs. Highly recommend the Sunday roast (book in advance though!) Delicious food, good drinks, lovely staff.

Lovely staff unfortunately they do not understand what gluten free food means. If you are coeliac or gluten intolerant you must explain this and not just ask for the gluten free menu?? What there gluten free menu actually means as explained by staff is no gluten containing ingredients, cross contamination is possible.Thank you for your response, I would have not have posted a negative review if you had responded in a way that I thought you understand.According to the Coeliac society the law isThere is a law that covers the use of the labelling term gluten free. When you see gluten free labled you know these foods are suitable on a gluten free diet. The term 'gluten free' is covered by law and can only be used on foods which contain 20 parts per million (ppm) or less of gluten. Two members of our party from different households were ill following our visit. One Coeliac and one gluten intolerant, hence asking for the gluten free menu, One should not have to disclose full medical history to eat in a restaurant!
