The Rose & Crown in Wealden

Great traditional pub with a wonderful community feel. We were given a warm reception as visitors and can thoroughly recommend the restaurant which was doing a roaring trade!

Well, where to begin with the Rose & Crown.Our first experience was on the Friday night, very unwelcoming bar staff that had no sense of urgency to serve any customers.Our glass of wine was placed unsteadily on the edge of a bar mat, this resulted in it falling over when the glass next to it was picked up. We were not offered a refill and had to pay for another glass despite this not being our fault.We decided to give it another chance and returned for an early dinner the following evening, the food took 50 minutes to arrive despite the pub not being busy.The wait staff again had no sense of urgency and were busy chatting amongst themselves about next years Christmas rota.The quality of the food was standard, very chewy stake and an almost chicken-less chicken burger.2/10 wouldn’t recommend.

Warm welcome & cold beer & cider, just what we needed whilst out walking. We will be back to have a meal.

We popped to the Rose and Crown for lunch today after hearing positive things. We had a lovely time. It's a cute pub with great food. Shout out to Kelly who was working hard to meet the needs of all the punters and was lovely and down to earth with us as we ordered. Another shout out to Tom the chef who went the extra mile to meet my dairy free dietary needs 😊 highly recommend others pop in too!

What can I say? We had an amazing stay. Really love the beds, the food, the pub but especially the hard working staff! Would recommend for sure! :)

Although the reasons for our one night stay at the Rose and Crown weren't particularly pleasant, the pub itself and the room more than made up for it.The pub is stuffed with atmosphere and character and in a beautiful part of the country. Our room was just charming - in an old quirky part of the building, exposed beams and interesting little nooks and crannies everywhere. Decorated beautifully, simple and clean with all the amenities you could ask for.Our breakfast was delicious and copious - can't comment on the full English experience as we are veggies so we had scrambled eggs and toast and coffee but we loved it all! Owner and all the other staff we encountered were lovely - friendly, polite and helpful.We would definitely recommend :-)

A lovely local pub. Kind staff, very welcoming. Amazing food. Great atmosphere.

We went for lunch today, never having been there before. We were warmly welcomed, excellent menu and service, especially by Sue. The food lived up to expectations and we will be returning soon.

I had an amazing home made chicken, leek and bacon pie in the Rose and Crown yesterday. We sat on front of the open fire with a pint of cider and a pint of Lakedown real ale. Very friendly staff and a perfect place to stop after a winter walk.

I had lunch here last weekend with a family member and had a really good time. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the fire was up, and the beer and food very good. In contrast to other pubs in the village that feel a bit more like a restaurant, it feels like a traditional country pub and is definitely worth a visit.
