A great pub with lots of different spaces inside and out. The food was fantastic and the service was brilliant. Its a perfect place to stop for a meal or just a drink.Alfriston is such a beautiful place, there's lots of places to go for a walk and some quaint shops too.Definitely recommend this pub 👍

Great country pub with amazing outside space to sit and enjoy your drink and food. Very friendly staff, excellent service and delicious food. Highly recommended and will definitely visit again. Thank you 😊

First time we have been but will not be the last the food was worthy of a five star restaurant my steak and ale pie was top class my friend had a fish pie and she said it was top class. Well worth a visit next time we are down on the south coast we will be back in The Smugglers

We went to visit santas grotto…. Santa was great, however the owners and the general pub were awful, telling us to be quiet for our excited children. Wouldn’t recommend, they aren’t child friendly, ever so rude and wish I hadn’t bothered!

Very disappointed with our visit yesterday. Rude staff and complaints of noisey children who were of course excited to visit Santa's grotto. Maybe worth a rethink in staging a grotto if children are going to be a problem. Contacted them via Facebook messenger to make them aware of my experience and rather than reply they blocked me. Won't be going back next year and will make others visiting aware.Having grown up in the village I find this really disappointing.

Booked a table for 4 for dinner at this lovely pub in Alfriston. All the staff were really helpful and friendly especially the owner. Good selection of local beers, wines, gins but not much of a selection for the whisky lover. Food was of a very high standard, very reasonably priced and very large portions. Advice for the owner, I would have had a desert if the main hadn't been so large (this was also the opinion of my 3 friends who each had a different main) and still been very happy with the price. Highly recommended.

I've been coming here for 30 years on and off and today I received a warm welcoming experience from start to finish. The only complaint I had was deciding which of the mouthwatering meals I'd order. We chose the lamb roast cheese ploughman's cherry and custard tart and berry crumble... each meal was exceptional in quantity, appearance and taste... probably the best pub food I can remember in recent years anyway and such sensible prices... I will continue to come here and even more so knowing they are serving such a fantastic menu in a warm welcoming picturesque environment.

We booked an overnight stay as we were walking the South Downs Way from Eastbourne. We were warmly welcomed by the owner Lisa and show to our bedroom, which was in the oldest part of the building, a room of character with sloping floors, beams, etc. The bed, duvet and pillows were so comfortable, just what we needed after a long hike. Food was delicious (salmon and steak and ale pie) and the staff friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and after a light breakfast we set off on our next walk. Would definitely recommend for hikers.
