Boo Bars in West Berkshire

Went for a meal at the Boot last week. Had fish and chips, my favourite here and in my opinion the best around. Also tried the croissant based bread and butter pudding. Its very light and flavoursome and while I don't normally have a sweet this was very good. As usual, friendly reception, good service and nice wine.

Really lovely setting with good facilities for the kids and plenty of space to run around in. Decent beer selection, but didn't try anything from the menu. (update as of February 11th '22): whiskey burger, flat iron steak, and wiener schnitzel - all superb. Wine selection is ace, too! Upgraded to 5*

Had the most lovely Christmas Day lunch. The food was exquisite, with pre-lunch snacks on the table when we arrived. An old and traditional setting, but in a warm environment and a lovely atmosphere. We were conveniently sat next to the log fire. This pub will not disappoint. Highly recommended.Thank you for proving such a wonderful Christmas Day experience and being part of our memories.

We had travelled from London amd Bath for two family birthdays. The food was nearly cold and we waited ages for each course . Only one member of staff was very friendly and there was chaos over the pre booked menu and we were told the chef had gone home with the orders!! Why wasn’t he cooking!! We had booked on recommendion but for the price it was very disappointing and chaotic. There were hardly any staff around when we went to ask what was happening with our food . When you have travelled that far for a family event this was not good enough . 🙁

We stumbled upon this pub on a self-guided village tour of Berkshire, and what a gem. Real wood fire and a choice of cozy interior, bright conservatory or pretty garden tables. The two young staff (students?) were so warm and friendly, making us feel at ease immediately.But the highlight was definitely the food - the chef is to be celebrated for his/her attention to flavour and clear passion for the culinary delights.The lamb shank was superbly cooked and the gravy as good as any I've had in top restaurants, the squid rings were crispy and the roasted tomato soup was full of flavour and had a depth that is only achieved by someone who really understands how to build tasty layers.We also appreciated that they kept the kitchen open for us even though we arrived very close to 2pm.Dog friendly.

I came here about 3 months ago and couldn’t believe that they actually cooked my steak rare. It was genuinely the best steak I’ve had in the UK. I came back tonight and was in disbelief that my steak was as perfect as it was before and even better when sat by the gigantic fire.Love!I’ll be back.

Wow, what a pub! Lovely staff, incredible menu and the food is delicious. Bao Buns are a must, the fish and chips are huge and deserts freshly made. The tent out back is pretty cool with plenty of indoor, undercover and outdoor space. Chickens roaming too!

Great pub with an excellent garden and great service will be going again!

New friendly owners who have made a tasteful upgrade to the interior which still maintains the special character of the pub. We visited on a Friday lunchtime with both fireplaces on offering a warm welcome. Great selection of local ales from the West Berkshire Brewery. Good food menu offering something for everyone and it would be good to see a selection of classic English pub sandwiches as an alternative to the more modern choices.
