Me and my Mum were in Berkshire visiting Highclere Castle for the day so we thought we would book somewhere to stay for the night..we chose here and could not recommend it enough! The room was beautiful! Bed was huge so plenty of room for me and my Mum. Very clean! The pub itself is so cosy! Beautiful decor! The best til last....the staff are absolutely amazing!! They go above and beyond to accomodate your every need, they are a real credit to the business! The young girl that works there (I wish I could remember her name), she lives just down the road and she couldn't speak highly enough of how much she loves to work there, which is such a lovely thing to hear! We will most definately be back and highly recommend to anyone wanting a beautiful, peaceful staycation.

Very warm and friendly welcome and a lovely atmosphere. Clean modern room with a nice outlook would be great in the Summer.Would definitely return . A great place to stay for visiting Highclere Castle for Downton fans .

The pub was very friendly on arrival. We ordered the food cooked meals. It came quickly and the portions were good. It was tasty.

Excellent hotel. We stayed here as we were visiting Highclere Castle. Rooms were very clean and the bed was super comfy and very large! Shower had good pressure and lovely underfloor heating. The food in the restaurant was exceptionally good. I can fully recommend the duck, it was melt in the month. Vladimir was a very good host. Excellent attention to detail, friendly and very knowledgeable on wine.

our server, Vladimir made us feel right at home from the beginning. Guiding us on wines, which were phenomenal. To starters - and then mains - that’s quality simply could not be beat. We found this place on a whim but will be returning customers - again and again. Mind blowing, seasonal food with a great booze selection and competitive pricing . 100/10 service.

Stayed here whilst visiting Highclere. Beautiful room with lovely large double bed. Also super shower with good pressure and heated floor. Luxury! Ate in the restaurant which had a good choice of food, including pies, fish and duck dishes. Frazer was really attentive giving great service. Would return.

We spent 2 nights there. Lovely pub-hotel. The accomodations are really good, and pets are allowed. Friendly, attentive, and efficient staff.Great first night, and we really enjoyed our dinner. Not too sure about dinner the second night nor breakfast on both days.We asked if we could reserve a particular table by the fire place for dinner for the second night, and we were told we could... and we did. When we arrived, some other couple had been given the table, and we didn't get an explanation, and one of the waitresses apologised uncomfortably. She seemed to be already aware, but it was obviously out of her hands.Pleasant stay, but could have been a lot better.I would still recommend, though.

I hate writing bad reviews but what a mess. Firstly total credit has to go to the young guy and girl that were left handling a busy restaurant alone on a Saturday night. Shockingly there was no sign of any management or any more staff throughout the whole time we were there. We are local and had been meaning to try here for a while. Having friends round we booked a table at 7:15. On arrival we were told no tables were available and were asked to have a drink at the bar. At 7:50 we checked on the status but no change. By 8:05 we thought it best to cut our losses and go elsewhere. We were gobsmacked at the lack of management and although the young lad was very apologetic, it was a pretty disappointing and embarrassing experience for us hosting friends. We subsequently went to our local, were seated within seconds and had amazing meal.

I had a lovely fish and chips for lunch here today. It was very quiet and the guy working there was friendly and super-quick. The fish was good but slightly bland. The freshly made mushy peas and tartar sauce were delicious. My only gripe was the décor inside the pub, which was so frightful that I chose to sit in their chilly extension, which is much nicer and offers a lovely view of the pretty garden.I'm not sure why they decided to make the interior of this beautiful 17th century house look like a shi shi nightclub and wouldn't have thought it would prove too popular with the cyclists and hill walkers who make up much of their clientele, not to mention the middle-of-the-road eighties pop which, thankfully, couldn't be heard outside.

Booking was made for my wife who was working in the area. She was extremely impressed with accommodation which was (in her words) stylish, luxurious and beautifully clean. The quality of the rooms and en-suite were faultless and every need catered for.Staff were willing, helpful and very polite. The food served in the pub was (in my wife's words) exceptional and all brought to the table with a friendly smile. She couldn't recommend the C&G highly enough for both food and accommodation.Amazing value for money - thank you very much (from my wife) for a positive and enjoyable stay.Mr J Murphy
