King Charles Tavern in West Berkshire

A lovely bar, what the Americans would probably describe as a typical quaint British pub. It was very quiet when popped in for a quick one on the way through Newbury, although it was a mid-week early lunch afternoon and Newbury itself felt like it was very much asleep that day. A very large selection of real ales on tap for such a tiny venue! An impressive feat in itself; and all lovingly and passionately cared for and explained to those who like such drinks (myself I'm not so keen!) As it was only glancing visit we didn't really see or do much, however the few people that were inside seemed pleasant and the pub has a friendly vibe to it and the odd jokey comment I made was received well and engaged with which leads me to believe its somewhere anyone can go and be made to feel welcomed by not only the staff but probably most of the patrons too. It does seem to attract the most 'sensible and intelligent' folks... although on this day I went

Didn't spend long here but spacious and nicely decorated. Will return to find out more.

Nice, comfy little pub with friendly patrons and bar staff. Small selection of different things to drink and an odd but welcome variety of rooms and furniture to sit on.

A very nice cosy place to go to and it's near the train station. They have, certainly for the Belgians, Leffe beer! Other beers are great too ;-) ! Very friendly personnel behind the bar and very helpful. Nice alround music and you don't need to shout to each other to understand what you're saying. I will certainly come back to visit this taverne to try out the food! 5 stars earned for sure!Went back today on friday 31st of August. Ate a hamburger and... It was wonderful! Good price quality balance and more than enough. Got some great explanation about the food and again very friendly staff. I'd give this place a 5+ if I could!
