Old Bell in West Berkshire

So, we stayed at the Premier Inn, next to the Old Bell. Firstly, the Premier Inn is what you’d expect, but the staff are really nice. Kamal was really helpful and couldn’t do enough.Secondly, the Old Bell. So, the pub looks the part. It’s a nice, ye olde looking establishment, with good decor and features and a lovely outdoor seating area. The staff were friendly, polite, everything you’d expect from staff, so zero no complaints about the staff.The food, on the other hand, was rank. The portion sizes, for the price, weren’t great. The child’s meals would have struggled to fill an Ethiopian, that had just finished walking 8 miles. The “well done” steak came out so rare, a good vet could’ve brought it back to life. The garlic and mushroom sauce had neither garlic or mushrooms in it, therefore, should just be sold as unknown, flavourless sauce or water, either was a fitting description. We ordered a side of mushrooms to go with the steak but they failed to appear. The bacon cheeseburger was ok, the brioche bun was either over cooked or stale, at this point I was past caring, and had given up. After mentioning this to the staff, whom were really apologetic, and offered to re-cook the same steak, we kindly declined. The Peroni was a nice pint.We ended up getting kebabs for the local kebab house, big thanks to the guys at Berkshire Kebab House, in Theale.

Most value for money in the area that I've seen. Staff are great and food delicious 👌

Old Bell has a very nice menu, quite extensive that can satisfy different taste buds. I had the Sunday Roast with Rib of Beef. It was delicious and tasted just as I had imagined. The staff were friendly and polite. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. This is a nice restaurant with family and friends.

Easy to park in car park, I found on entering The Old Bell I was greeted warmly and taken to my booked table which I found clean and well presented. The menu offered a good selection to which I enjoyed the food I ordered. Staff were very attentive. Enjoyed my visit.

Visited Boxing Day, as is our tradition, and we all agreed that the quality of food and service is getting better each year. Excellent food, and loads of it too. Highly recommended.

Some of the staff were great. Others were a bit ambivalent. This may be because we arrived 5 minutes before they finished serving food at 9pm. Bar service was great. Food was OK.Its connected to the Premier in which was all to the usual high standards of cleanliness and all you need from a budget hotel.

Staff were amazing tonight over 30 of us for a retirement meal for my parents. The food was out on time, warm and all arrived together. Were great hosts and nudged us on our way at the end of the evening. Great for a couple or a party. Would highly recommend. Thanks again amazing staff.

Just two of us using some Tesco vouchers(£30) to part pay for our meal, we had 2 courses, soft drinks and coffee and only had to pay £18Food was good but not excellent, slow cooked pork was very fatty. Slow cooked lamb a bit dry, more gravy needed too. Dessert was actually better than mains, but never thought I'd say this, but a little too much thick whipped cream 🤔😂Good service.

We were staying nearby in a hotel and decided based on reviews to check this place out. Pre-booked 6pm Sunday with 2 adults and 2 kids (5&6). I'm quite picky over roast dinners and get frustrated when you go out and it tastes nowhere near as nice as what you cook yourself. Not at this pub. WOW the Yorkshire Puddings were huge and cooked to perfection. The meat was all very nice quality, juicy and not tough or dry. The staff were friendly and helpful and service was very prompt. Price was I was very impressed too. It's going to sound like we just give everywhere 5 stars which we don't but couldn't fault The Old Bell and would happily go there again.
