Arrived on a busy nightWalked up to bar expecting to be shown to our seat and presented with a menu, but we were told table was over there just past the door, there was two tables one for four people and another for two, as there was only two of us we sat at the two seated table only to find that we were sat almost on top of the gents toilet, I asked about the spare table of four later and was told that it was reserved, so as it was busy we stayed where we wereThe table for four was not taken for dinners!Order was taken and order was faily quick considering it was very busy just a shame that the fish and chip dinner was greasyWould go again but request a different seat (just think that the seat we had is far to close to the toilets)And would also look for some think different on the menu

This characterful old pub is a favourite with many locals. The food is good pub food and the service is friendly. Over several visits I have tried their burger, the fish and chips and the ham and eggs. All my meals were tasty and prepared in good time. My companions all seemed to enjoy their meals too! Another place I will visit again.

Relaxed quality pub with new decor and management. We joined friends and young teens for a late Sunday lunch, who had eaten at Ye Olde Red Lion before under previous owners. This was our first experience and it was absolutely wonderful! Felt in good hands with just the right amount of relaxed informality together with correct orders and really delicious, large portions of classic food. We ordered a full range of mains and pudds including vegetarian, kids, salads and Sunday Roasts. Our roast beef was akin to 3 tender steak fillets on a plate (wow!), succulent pink inside & tough around the outside. Perfect for us. Mixed fresh tasty veg; cooked broccoli still bright green and firm, with a surprise large dish of cauliflower cheese on the side. All our plates were pilled high, even the salads and vegetarian dishes. Teens were happy with Kids menu burgers and chips then realised chips & peas were included and with ice cream deserts too. Happy days! With a steady stream of drinks served by Elliot, a smiling tall teenager with graceful confident manners, it was a really leisurely relaxed get together. They even had Oat milk for our vegan friend’s tea! Almost forgot to mention the warm melty Sticky Toffee Pudding which was honestly the best I’ve ever eaten! Hard to believe the new owners have only just bought the pub and opened that week after some updating and decorating. Congrats and good luck all. On our way from London we will most certainly chose Ye Olde red Lion again, instead of the M4 Chievely service station and maybe try their B&B rooms when meeting up with our mates from the West Country next time.

Stopped off here Easter Sunday for dinner on way home. Both our meals (fish and chips and mushroom stroganoff) were hot and extremely tasty. Service was great, being attentive but not over bearing. Surroundings were pleasant and lively but not too loud. Would definitely pop in again.

6 of us met here today for a school reunion, now 42 years since we left school. We found the manager and staff very accommodating as, not having seen each other since before covid, we were very chatty and quite giggly 😀 Apart from looking after us with drinks, lunch and coffees they kindly left us to get on with a good old catch up. The sandwiches and baguettes were lovely 😋 Thank you for looking after us.

Outstanding two-night stay at this terrific pub. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The bar was friendly and welcoming, with a lovely local atmosphere. The service was brilliant - always friendly but also careful and attentive. The star of the show was the food. Breakfast was delicious, well cooked and very tasty. The food in the evening was restaurant quality, with great ingredients, beautifully cooked and presented, in generous portions.Overall, this was an exceptional find. We booked for next year's race meeting, after the first night, it was that good.

Lovely pub with B&B. There are also lunch and evening meals available. The rooms are lovely with all that you need. The breakfast really sets you up for the day and is delicious. Our evening meal was superb, the curry was lovely and full of flavour. We even bought some of Sue's home made jam. Will be back without doubt.
