The Black Horse in West Oxfordshire

Visited during our stay to lincoln Park farm touring caravan site. Very friendly and kind to our dogs. Great place.

Very limited menu, food good but very expensive for what you get.

Excellent food. Catch of the day was bass, and it was probably the nicest I've ever had. Always good to eat local sourced foods

A lovely village pub, the staff were very friendly and polite. Unfortunately we did not have a great experience with the food. We waited a long time for it to be bought out and when it finally arrived, we found it to be quite plain, for the money we expected nicer food. Sides (a sauce and some vegetables) came out very late, by that time half of us had finished and the others dinners were cold. Credit to them, they took the cost of the vegetables off the final bill. We would return for Drinks definitely but unfortunately not food.

Not great.Didn’t pay for food as it was not up to standard and served cold, and took a long time.Staff claimed to be busy on arrival due to a big table.I saw no big table.There where 2 other meals served whilst we were there.Menu isn’t big or complicated so I could see no real reason for the failure.

We regularly come here for a Sunday roast and it never disappoints. I love the fact they also have non-roast options available on a Sunday too. The service is always excellent, even today when there was a slight delay on our food the manager made sure to follow up and got our food sorted asap. Highly recommend.

The food and service was excellent. However portion sizes were really poor. When it arrived and they ask "is there anything else I can get you" I nearly said "Yes, the other half of my meal". I arrived hungry and left hungry and much poorer. For the price, at a pub, you don't expect tiny portions to the point where you feel cheated.

A great pub with so much going for it, gorgeous village location with nice friendly staff, the patio area out the back as a new addition is a great bonus. So why 3 stars? We arrived in plenty of time, eventually gave our order as we understood the kitchen was busy, no issues with everything on the menu.Starter turns up and we are now told that the menu selection has changed, we were a little disgruntled to be honest. This smacks of poor kitchen management with orders not appearing to be properly logged by the staff. A real shame as it did spoil our evenings enjoyment as the back up choice of a steak was also not available. Fish and chips were selected. When the mains arrived there was a noticeable difference in portion sizes. A little odd as we had seen the monster portions being served on Sunday evening. I had belly pork cooked to perfection, however the cracking was a puffball affair which was wasted on us peasants. The baby apples were a delight though. The pub is great as said but to get to where it should be there shouldn't be issues like this for a pub that sells mains at restaurant prices.

After a succession of changes of ownership and management the Black Horse is set fair to regain its former reputation, combining a sociable community pub with a very good place to eat.
