Nice place, as others have said, tables are close together but fortunately no one was sat next to us.The food was nice and good for what it is but have had much better in the north and isn't something I'd rush back to eat. Also, on the website I noticed after that it mentioned unlimited chips but no one told us that whilst we were there and as I had the vegan option it did you quite fill me up and I left a little hungry. It would have been nice to have been told about unlimited chips as everyone in my group would have had more. The mushy peas were lovely though! Free water was a nice touch.

Visited today (just got in before 2pm) for a late lunch. We had the delicious hake lunchtime special with mushy peas and pots of really good tea. Everyone and everything was perfect. Very clean and good service. I wish I lived nearer so I could repeat the experience.

Loved the ambience, friendly and efficient staff and the food was tasty and filling. By eating in the restaurant you can have unlimited chips with your meal, but we were full with the portion served. I had the best homecooked chicken, leek and ham pie ever. Husband had the cod and chips which he said was very good. The ice cream portion was a lot bigger than I expected which was a pleasant surprise! Lovely little Shoal 'printed' wafer with it too.

Wow, excellent fish and chips, some of the best I've had and the ice cream sundaes afterwards? Delicious, try not to go overboard on the unlimited chips so you have some space. Would advise arriving early because you can't make a reservation (except large groups) and this place gets busy! Well worth it though, thoroughly enjoyable

You have to queue, no booking unless a group of 8 or more. Incredible value on the set lunch including unlimited chips! Friendly service. Do try the sour Cherry sorbet.

Ordered takeaway fish and chips on Saturday after I’d done a 20 mile run. My friend had agreed to collect them but train was delayed. Ben the manager called me to check if all was ok and because of delay put in freshly cooked cod. It was just delicious and exactly what I needed. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Amazing fish and chips. Everything was perfect. Better than Whitby fish and chips. Lunchtime deal was amazing. Even bread that was home made was brilliant. Everything great and served on Denby too. Christmas crackers was a really nice touch too. Will be back.

A superb restuarant with fantastic fish and chips at a very reasonable price served with a huge pot of tea. Delightful rolls and butter accompanied our mains. The cod was delicious, as was the haddock and a very generous kids portion too. Complimentary sparkling water was a nice touch. Couldn't try their homemade gelato though as was too full up.

Great fish and chips - it was not greasy at all and very fresh. The lunch special pie had a creamy mash and generous filling of salmon, cod and whole prawns! Also offered complimentary jug of sparkling/still water and freshly made roll. Can't book in advance though, but no queue.I can see why it is no 1 on tripadvisor

Great value and quality with proper mushy peas (so my wife , a northerner, says) and a big pot of tea served in Denby pottery. £12 for a regular cod, unlimited chips, peas of your choice and a hot drink or soft drink can plus bread and butter (this was a brioche bun which I believe is homemade - whilst I liked it an offer of traditional bread and butter would have been appreciated especially for those of us who like to construct a chip butty !!!).
