The Bishop on the Bridge in Winchester

We ate there this evening. I'd highly recommend you go anywhere else. There are so many great places to eat out in Winchester, we are spoilt for choice. The menu here is pretty limited, the cocktails are mediocre and very over priced for what they are. The wine we had was again nothing special Vs a supermarket wine, but the main thing was the truly appalling service. I asked literally 3 times for water. I mean water is pretty basic right? They served alcohol, very slowly, but no water. Each time we wanted food we had to ask again as to whether it was on the way or not. First world problems, but a serious rip off and truly dreadful service. You deserve better. Steer clear.

Glad we found this pub/ restaurant. All six of us were ready for food. It's situated alongside a fast moving river, which pleasant walk before lunch. The food is good basic British fare, and fair prices too.

It’s a very popular place in the city next to the river. It’s got plenty of seating in and outside. There is a good choice on the menu and being a Fuller’s pub all you’d expect from the drinks selection too.It’s pet friendly also.A variety of seating- stools, high chairs, wingback armchairs and patio too.It can get very busy so aim to arrive early for the best seating arrangements.The food is locally sourced and is of a high quality.I’ve been here from Southampton and it’s a popular choice for me.

Had Sunday lunch here. It was delicious! Generous portions, and I appreciated the fact that you got a Yorkshire pudding regardless of which meat you choose! Haha. We did have an issue with one of our meals, but they were more than generous in the way that they dealt with this.As others have commented, the acoustics aren’t the best as the whole place is pretty open plan. There was a large table sat near us and it did make it pretty noisy so something to consider if you’re looking for a quiet meal but otherwise, definitely recommend.

Came here one lunchtime having been driven out of a pub up the road by loud music. Obviously a Fullers managed house but good service and a light and airy place. Food was overpriced but well cooked and presented.

The location, the friendly and efficient service and the range of drinks make this a good place to choose but if you're paying that much for your food then it needs to be right. There were other small niggles with the food but what gets me most is that they can't get chips right. Lots of places make the same mistake serving skin on chips and then not cooking them properly so you end up with greasy and soggy potatoes that are really unappealing. I will definitely be visiting here again for drinks but possibly never to eat.

Nice atmosphere, service was slow (it was busy however). Food was average (burger had little to none of the special sauce as mentioned in the menu).

We was here in last Sunday for a quick dinner on way back to London.This place is beautiful(dog friendly). The Lady from the front desk was very helpful and friendly, and that's it from the nice part of our visit here. For more than 15 minutes nobody come take the order. We felt like the staff were doing everything they could not to look at us or come to the table. We attempted to use the app but signal was horrendous and the wifi did not work either. Finally we got a servers attention and have to ask about that. Beer was ok, a lot options to choose from. Main course came not long after the beer. My fish was super soggy, non crispy not hot. Both out chips are weren't "triple cooked". They was completely white and soft. Burger was ok but served without any salad or nothing (almost £15 meal). My boyfriend ordered chocolate dessert and it was very nice albeit quite on the small side. I tried the cold apple crumble with plum... Im not sure if your chef is trying the food before is served but...I never eat nothing that disgusting. Is mostly plum, no apples, completely no flavour and extremely sour. Served cold didn't help...It is a really nice place and we are upset about this as it has a lot of potential. Nice scenery, nice place on the river. Nice beer garden and very nice decoration and interior, but the food just isn't up to par. The place was apparently "busy" but there were 3 or 4 tables being served inside and yes almost all tables outside were with people but not everyone had food so in total maybe 20 tables were being occupied in and out

Only just popped in for one drink staff was pleasant and welcoming. Looks like a pub we will visit again on our stay in Winchester. Lovely outside seating area overlooking the river.

The pub was, alas, ruined by "designers" at some time in the past. Shabby chic fittings? All walls gone and totally open plan.As a review I read said the pub is "cavernous". Not wrong...However, the staff are great, the chef is clearly very talented, the atmosphere and location are excellent.Shame a previous generation ruined the architecture but that's not the fault of those working there and running the pub now! So, I'd recommend the place.
