Visited the Hotel du Vin for an event held by the organisation I work for, and I have to say I was impressed but the facilities, but more so by the wonderful English Tea they provided after the event. Their scones where the highlight for me as they were deliciously moorish. Above all the service was top notch.

We asked very specifically for a quiet room. Instead, we were given a room above the staff entrance to the kitchen. Each time a staff member entered or exited this entrance, the door would be slammed. With this being an old building with very thin, single pane Georgian windows, it caused the entire room above (where we were staying) to shake. At around 11pm, I questioned how long this would go on for with a member of the reception staff, and if it was expected to continue through the night, we would need to move rooms. I was informed that the kitchen staff usually leave at 11pm and that it wouldn’t be an issue during the night. We were not offered a different room. Fast forward to 5am (on the dot). Door slamming starts up. I am then wide awake. As I attempted to get back to sleep, the staff started up a conversation outside the window. Then came the morning deliveries and more door banging. Vehicles reversing into the area where the kitchen’s entrance is, which was accompanied by the usual “beep, beep, beep” that you get from large vehicles reversing. Add to that a bin collection at around 6-6:30am, following by another (glass bottles etc) at 7am, together with further door banging, and builders starting up work on the adjoining car park not long after 7am, this was not a pleasant night’s sleep. Having asked specifically for a very quiet room, I can not understand why we were put in what must be the noisiest room in the hotel. As a Hotelier myself, if I can offer any advice to Hotel du Vin, it would be to, firstly, install a soft closer on the external kitchen door, and some sort of padding to soften the close further. I would also train the kitchen staff to understand the audibility of noise in the rooms above, and the impact that has on hotel guests. And I would encourage the hotel’s reception staff to understand what it means when a guests requests a quiet room.Anyone considering staying at this hotel, I would advise not to stay in the Comptes de Champagne room!Additional to this, the restaurant staff, although very friendly, could do with some proper training. Food was great, though.

Delicious 3-course meal for two in their pretty garden for husband's 65th birthday. A glass of Prosecco before eating, then Liver Parfait with Brioche toast for starters, Lamb Rump with Lyonnaise Potatoes and green veg' for mains (washed down with a lovely Malbec) and Creme Brulee for pud' plus coffee, all for under ÂŁ140 including tip. Service was the usual excellent combination of friendly and professional, with just the right amount of attentiveness. Would highly recommend!BTW, they have a car park which is now chargeable for residential guests, but if you're just dining, you simply need to get your ticket (which you will get from the barrier machine on entry) validated at Reception before leaving.

I picked up a TooGoodToGo breakfast for ÂŁ4 (usually ÂŁ12 if dining in), and was impressed by the quality of food supplied. We will try eating in at some point in the future.

Lovely hotel with great service and food but very, very noisy in the room at night due to overlooking a busy main road.....terrible night's sleep. We would use again but only if we were guaranteed a room at the rear of the hotel. An expensive bad night's sleep sadly.

We booked lunch at Hotel Du Vin, to celebrate a special occasion. We were sadly disappointed with the extremely poor level of customer service and with done of our guests food.We expected far greater achievement from your 5 star establishment.

Perfect stay! This is the 9th HdV we have stayed at and I have to say one of the nicest. We visited for our wedding anniversary on the glorious getaway deal and everything was perfect. Clare the Manager is lovely and has a great team around her. Patrick the barman is very knowledgeable and takes great pride in his work. Reception and restaurant staff very helpful and efficient. The food in the Bistro for supper and breakfast was very good. Room was newly refurbished and very comfortable and clean. We had a fantastic stay. Thank you Mandi and Andy

Not usually one to write bad reviews, but I came away from the meeting regarding potentially hosting our wedding at Hotel Du Vin Winchester feeling so "unimportant" as it was clear that the Events coordinator was not interested at all in our smaller more intimate wedding. All she seemed to care about was trying to sell us the rooms above the venue!!! No food or drink quote was provided in her follow up emails just the prices of said rooms. To add to the awful experience, When I specified what type of menu I wanted for MY wedding, the response I got was. "what no meat or fish option??" Surely the food choices me and my guests are choosing has nothing to do with the events coordinator.Safe to say you will not be getting our wedding booking or any future business purely based on this experience and complete lack of professionalism on Emmas part.

I called to ask for information on booking an event room for a wedding party then followed it up with an email. Never received the promised information, despite being told our preferred date was available. If they can't even be bothered to follow up a free lead they don't deserve the several thousands of pounds we would have spent with them.

We arrived about 6 50pm. Ordered drinks in the bar and were told by the bar staff that as we had ordered a bloody mary we would have to wait til 7pm for the barman to arrive. Not exactly a complicated drink to make.We dined in the restaurant. Food was OK.We don't need the waitress to address us as my friend. We've never met her before and will probably never see her again , so no need for that. Also when we enquired about the catch of the day , we were told it was sea bass , a white flaky fish. Were from birmingham and know what a sea bass is. Overall experience was average.
