Lovely cottage style rooms above the pub! Great food at dinner and a hearty breakfast. The staff were even kind enough to store our bikes inside overnight. A great stop on our bikepacking tour - thanks so much đź‘‘

Lovely location. Staff were friendly and efficient but the rooms were badly in need of refurbishment, particularly the bathroom: The shower hose leaked; paint was peeling off the walls and there was a smell of damp. The bar area was lively and pleasant, although we had to eat there, rather than the restaurant even though we booked well in advance.Breakfast, however, was excellent!

Really enjoyable stay at The Kings Head. Made to feel really welcome. Had an unexpected upgrade as our room was not available. Upgraded room with four poster was lovely although the room of the others in our party was lovely also. Only issue was radiator in our room wasn't working so a bit chilly, although the bathroom one was working? Excellent evening meal! Full english Breakfast next morning with local produce was simply superb. A really lovely touch is the drinks fridge upstairs with honesty box.

I really enjoyed my stay at the friendly, 'haunted' King's Head.I was heading up north and looking for a place to stay for the night after arriving on the Santander to Portsmouth ferry, and this traditional inn caught my eye immediately.A good menu, excellent selection of drinks, and attentive, professional, and welcoming staff (not to mention other 'residents') made my night there one to remember. When making the booking online, I was completely unaware of the alleged paranormal activities. However, let's just say that I can confirm they're not a myth.Elliot, the manager, who is a great host, was good enough to show me around the building and participate in a video I wanted to make.Little did we know before we set out that certain unexplained activity would be captured during the tour.I'll post a link once it's ready for broadcast.I must point out that, despite my previous comments regarding the hauntings, at no time did the atmosphere feel threatening, but it added to a truly memorable stay.My room was really comfortable too.I'll definitely be back. Thanks again for your great hospitality, Elliot (and team).

Excellent night's stay in a great room.Evening meal was a burger that was very tasty!Breakfast was freshly cooked and again was very tasty, set me up for the day.All in all a great stay for a good price. Also the staff were mega friendly throughout, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

What a FANTASTIC experience! We stayed here for two nights while my husband took our daughter fly fishing and I took my son and daughter to Peppa Pig World. I genuinely could not have been happier! They are dog friendly, kid friendly and very, very attentive as a hotel and a bed / breakfast type lodging.Above and beyond everything else, the manager, Elliot, was wonderful. He clearly cares a tremendous amount about his staff, his guests and the hotel. He was always on site and seemed to anticipate our next need at every turn. We had better service at The Kings Head than in many higher end venues in London.in addition to Elliot, the waitstaff were all super friendly, everyone checking on us as they dropped off food and making sure we had everything we needed - a small compliment on the surface but really a great touch. We never felt like we had to hunt anyone down but we also didn't feel crowded. The Bartender was great and she added a real air of confidence and seniority.I didn't think, when we arrived, that we would ever visit again because it was for a specific reason (fly fishing, Peppa Pig) but honestly it was such a wonderful experience I look forward to coming up with a reason to return.Thank you so much!

I booked the king's head for an 80th birthday Sunday lunch some weeks in advance. I was told when booking that we would have a lovely long table for 11 all to ourselves in the snug which sounded perfect. However on arrival we were not alone in the snug with 2 other tables already there and neither was the table allocated to us big enough for the 11. In the end 3 of the party had to sit at a small separate table divided by the door to the toilets and exit. Not ideal with people going in and out and being isolated from the rest of us. Had we known we would never have booked the pub. The pub offered a couple of bottles of prosecco as an apology but we really didn't feel this made up for what had ruined the lunch. The food itself was ok (most of the party had the Sunday roast and thought the beef was rare but rather tough and very fatty) but disappointingly the vegetables came at different times to the mains and horseradish/sauces etc came halfway through the meal. The desserts also came at different times with some people still waiting for theirs whilst others had finished. The waitresses were friendly and tried their best but clearly the staff and kitchen were under too much pressure.Overall, the pub could do so much better. Very disappointed with what should have been a very special birthday lunch. Would I recommend? No

Superb lunch, one of the best roast pub meals we have had with great meat choices and superb vegetable and sides. Very good service and just loved the heated outdoor dining pods. A little pricey but well worth for the quality of food and service

Definitely the nicest Sunday roast I’ve had in a pub. Great choice, beautifully presented and totally delicious. The only shame is I was too full for a pudding, although I managed to squeeze in one scoop of ice cream, yummy. So good we automatically rebooked for next month as we left. Can’t wait to return.
