Myself and a friend went here for Sunday lunch and we had high expectations. The pub was doing family style and the menu looked on paper great. We both had the prawn starter which was ok, but not seasoned and bland. We both had the roast and to say we were underwhelmed is an understatement. My beef was tasteless and not seasoned and was tough in places. The roast potatoes were soggy bland and tasteless, the bacon in the cabbage was fatty and not crispy and the cabbage was overcooked. The parsnips were ok. The carrots vichy were nice. The carrots and courgette in a tomato sauce were yuck. The yorkshire pudding was ok but tasteless. The cauliflower cheese was terrible it was cauliflower with cheese on it no actual cheese sauce and was dry. The stuffing came out in very unpleasant looking cubes and again was mediocre in taste. The gravy was the biggest let down of this whole meal as it was flavourless and like greasy water, when good gravy should be thick, unctuous and coat the meal and bring everything together but this did the opposite. For dessert I had the honeycomb cheesecake. The cheesecake part was absolutely divine but the honeycomb on top was burnt which made the eating very unpleasant and bitter. The coffee was lovely. The waiting staff were very lovely and did a great job but this pub needs to go back to basics with this family style Sunday lunch as it is extremely expensive for what it is currently.

Food was good, service was a bit below what I'd expect, the tables hadn't been wiped between customers and the waitress seemed very disinterested in helping us.

Booked to stay here on Sunday all went through fine, recieved email on weds evening to say stay was cancelled. No explanation. Phoned to ask they said they had a large party booked and some of them were using the rooms. Great, so we get cancelled so they can accommodate someone else. Won't bother with this place ever again and reading some of the reviews pleased lm not staying.

Unfortunately not good. A large party took presidence over other customers. Waited an hour for starter which was bread and olive oil! Felt very sorry for staff as they were overwhelmed by large party who were very demanding. Better organisation needed.

Lovely cottage style rooms above the pub! Great food at dinner and a hearty breakfast. The staff were even kind enough to store our bikes inside overnight. A great stop on our bikepacking tour - thanks so much 👑

Lovely location. Staff were friendly and efficient but the rooms were badly in need of refurbishment, particularly the bathroom: The shower hose leaked; paint was peeling off the walls and there was a smell of damp. The bar area was lively and pleasant, although we had to eat there, rather than the restaurant even though we booked well in advance.Breakfast, however, was excellent!

Really enjoyable stay at The Kings Head. Made to feel really welcome. Had an unexpected upgrade as our room was not available. Upgraded room with four poster was lovely although the room of the others in our party was lovely also. Only issue was radiator in our room wasn't working so a bit chilly, although the bathroom one was working? Excellent evening meal! Full english Breakfast next morning with local produce was simply superb. A really lovely touch is the drinks fridge upstairs with honesty box.

I really enjoyed my stay at the friendly, 'haunted' King's Head.I was heading up north and looking for a place to stay for the night after arriving on the Santander to Portsmouth ferry, and this traditional inn caught my eye immediately.A good menu, excellent selection of drinks, and attentive, professional, and welcoming staff (not to mention other 'residents') made my night there one to remember. When making the booking online, I was completely unaware of the alleged paranormal activities. However, let's just say that I can confirm they're not a myth.Elliot, the manager, who is a great host, was good enough to show me around the building and participate in a video I wanted to make.Little did we know before we set out that certain unexplained activity would be captured during the tour.I'll post a link once it's ready for broadcast.I must point out that, despite my previous comments regarding the hauntings, at no time did the atmosphere feel threatening, but it added to a truly memorable stay.My room was really comfortable too.I'll definitely be back. Thanks again for your great hospitality, Elliot (and team).
