We visited for a celebratory evening on Saturday, 26 March. A party of 8 in the private side room. Two members of staff were most attentive & happily accommodated one guest's request for a slight change to her starter. We had pre-ordered our 3-course meal that was both tasty & extremely well priced. Our evening was a great success. Thanks so much to The Old Vine.

Just had a lovely lunch here with my friend. Food was delicious, decent portions and the staff and service was superb. We didn’t feel rushed which was lovely, and I can’t fault anything. 100% will return and will recommend to others.

We went to The Old Vine Winchester on Sunday, Food was really good, the guy at the till was friendly, I would liked to give 5 stars but something really bothered me:On arrival I asked a young blond hair staff with boot cut trousers (because I dont know her name) if we could be seated. She pointed at a direction saying there is a table for two, go and sit there!Basically she didnt feel that we could be treated a bit nicer. I asked if she takes our order, she said, order at the bar. When she brought the food, placed it on our table and walked off without asking if we need a sauce or something. Then she returned to the room three times and asked other 2 tables if the food was good or if they need anything or if they would like to order dessert, but ignored us completely. (I thought everyone should order at the bar!!)There are only 3 tables in the room but 2 different treatments(?)When we got up to leave, she even didnt bother to look at us. I hate to say that but I couldn't think of anything else but that she was a racist :(This is the only review I have left on Google with this issue. I hope The Old Vine take this seriously. This lady was clearly treating us differently from other guests with no reason.About The Old Vine replay:With your language of replying, I am not surprised that your training staff is not adequate at all. If you had read my review carefully, I pin pointed a specific person, not all your staffs. My review explains how I felt about the service that I received and I do not need your permission on how I felt.If The Old Vine  policy is to treat customers differently You Must make it clear by putting a sign up at your entrance. This was not brought to my attention as a walk in customer or you could say no walk in customers, booking is required. Winchester is a torist welcoming city and I have enjoyed many restaurants there who treat all customers equally.I am not apologiesing about my review and I expected The Old Vine's management to apologies for unacceptable treatment that A Member of its staff has done.Asking customer if he needs a sauce or providing cutleries for food does not requir service charge!!

Very slow service. Had to go to the bar to ask for drinks. Starters were fine. 2 of the 4 mains had well overdone sea bass. Mentioned the grey ham on the ploughman’s but not interested2 desserts were fineWouldn’t rush back

Pre-pandemic we used to visit with our friends a few times every year as it's a halfway point. We used to absolutely love it, but now feel ambivalent about it. This is first time in 2 years, such a difference - menu choices greatly reduced, portions also noticeably smaller, yet prices have increased significantly. Food was adequate but nowhere near as good as it used to be. Our table was cramped into a corner, very difficult for one of our party who has a hip problem. The table next to us was so close and occupied that we had difficulties getting in and out. Told we couldn't be moved. We appreciate the lockdowns plus rise in cost of living will cause a re-think in the menu and pricing, but the quality needs to make up for that, and it doesn't. Will not be returning.

We had a booking from 6-7:30. We were reminded on arrival and again during the meal that we had to be out by 7:30. There are more polite ways to achieve this outcome. The squid entree was high on batter, the fish pie mains were bland with too much dry potato mash. The greens were good. The atmosphere was good and the dessert was good. The prices were reasonable. Hence 3/5.

Superb location. Our room 'Osborne and Little' was delightful although the shaver point was dead so couldn't use my shaver or charge our tooth brush.Take note: The rooms are above the bar area and ours was not a quiet room. General hubbub from below could be an issue if you need tranquility then this is not for you. However this does end at when the pub closes.Staff were very helpful. Parking wasn't too difficult after getting permit from The Old Vine. Dinner was good pub food. I fancied the pie of the day from the blackboard only to find the board said it was 'Sold out' as was the bread and butter pudding which we both would have had. It's a chalk board just rub them out, there's no need to tell us what we can't have :o(Breakfast was very nice. Our only issue, the breakfast area was cold, my wife had to wear her coat every morning. We put this down to deliveries and trades people leaving the doors open and the artic blast blowing all the heat away. Please light the fire or turn the heating on earlier. It would be soo much nicer.

Fantastic food and great service. The home made scotch egg was brilliant. Really nice staff. Lovely setting opposite cathedral. Recommend you book as it can get busy. Highly recommended.

We've walked past several times in the past and always thought it would be nice to pop in for a meal sometime. We were with family this time and we're there for a late lunch. We all thought the meals were great and a nice pint of lager too. I didn't pay quite a hefty service charge though because we ordered at the bar.

Booked a table here for last night, on our visit to family in Hampshire. Absolutely lovely place to have Dinner and a couple of beers. Thanks to all the staff who looked after us and the Chef's who provided such fabulous meals. Looking forward to our next visit!
