Not a patch on previous visits. Although they were closing for refurb, they had not made it clear. Only one fish and chips available, their most popular dish. No longer serving interesting ale, very run of the mill and not well kept.

The receptionist was not too keen on travelzoo customers, but allocated our first room no 7 which was ok with a few problems, door knob not working, lights not working, no tea spoons no soap in the shower area, poor mattress, which he gave to travelzoo customers probably.!!! Following slow water flow, we were allocated no 13.lucky for us!! What a difference. Great room. Food was superb, especially the veg, breakfast, very friendly staff, helpful, a good couple of nights all in. The Pub to be upgraded in April. It needs it.

Really disappointed this evening with our visit to The Running Horse. This is our ‘go to’ pub for an evening out as normally good food and wine selection with great service. We booked online but stood waiting to be seated while staff failed to make eye contact and looked stressed. We ordered mussels and a steak as main courses. The Mussels has clearly sat cooked for a while before serving as dry by the time they arrived. The Rib Eye Steak was inedible, a really poor quality piece of meat with every mouthful grizzly and tasteless. Can’t blame the chef as it seems the produce was poor. Wine was ok but the move from Berry Brothers as a supplier was noticeable. Please please return to the same standards as we want our ‘go to ‘ pub to return. A TripIn January was great so maybe some recent changes in supply or staffing?

Trotted down to The Running Horse Pub set in the sleepy quaint village of “Littleton” situated on the edge of the city of Winchester with my stable mate and thoroughly enjoyed the warm hospitality and beautifully prepared, cooked and presented fare. The dining room is done out in period looking wood panelling and book cases filled with original material to complement the look, adding to a kindly unique and homely inviting ambience to love the experience. We went for the prime short rib burger -delicious and fish pie - this makes you really appreciate fish! both freshly prepared with fresh ingredients by real chefs who know what they are doing. They certainly hit the mark, and afterwards we both ended up eating like our namesakes when heading to the finishing line by, taking in the brownie and sticky toffee treats on offer. Can’t recommend it enough going back soon to spend a weekend break and take the dog…yep it’s dog friendly too so your bestie can enjoy it all as well. If you want a cert tip back the Running Horse, odds on you won’t be disappointed and glad you made this outing.

The food was excellent, however there seemed to be a constant mix up over what we had ordered by way of drinks. The food took a long time to arrive: we waited over three quarters of an hour and it only arrived some time after I asked how long it would be. So: great food, service not so great.

I did not have a good time. Whilst staying here they gave me a cupboard and called it a "room". There was not even a bed. Absolutely shocking. I was literally curled up in a closet for four nights without any light. Though the room was cheap. It was not a room. It was a cupboard. Good service, good staff but terrible closet/room.

Lovely well kept pub with well sized roomsParking is ample 👏🏻 Room was clean with teas & coffee Bathroom good size with good size shower Food in restaurant was lovely cooked and tasty 😋 but portions need equaling out so you don’t end up eating only meat because you’ve eaten your 9 chips maybe some peas ?and a few pieces of broccoli 🥦 🥦 maybeFish pie slightly saltyPrices should reflect portion size for what you get £ £ 🥦 🍟Most things in tiny baskets bowls making it look like portion control comes to your table?Overall a lovely place to stay and have a mealAll staff seam friendly and polite 👏🏻
