The Westgate in Winchester

Absolutely terrible food - long wait time, and the food was incredibly dry. Terrible, terrible, terrible.

Check in and out nice and easy and the bed was comfortable; there would have been a higher rating but for the fact that there was no breakfast (and it's advertised as such), and messages were left via 'phone, email and FB messenger about this and parking locally; none of which were answered. So that was disappointing - plus we found out the kitchen was closed a couple of days before.

The pub is very nice but the room was a little disappointing. The carpet on the stairs leading to the rooms had a musty smell. The tap in the bathroom was loose and leaking, carpet needs a deep clean and my room faced the main road and was very noisy. Thankfully the bed was comfortable and I had a good night's sleep but woken in the morning by traffic.Breakfast was not included but there was tea and coffee making facilities and 2 bottles of water. Rooms certainly need an overhaul but staff and management were very friendly and helpful. Location was very good just a 5-10 minute walk to the high street.

I came into the pub expecting a nice friendly atmosphere however one lady in particular, Niamh was extremely rude to me and actually has put me off coming to Winchester ever again !!

Booked two nights. The pub was closed after our arrival night so had to go up the wonky back entrance stairs during our visit. We were given hand towels (not bath towels) for the duration of our stay. Rude woman had "an appointment" so brought our suitcase to the door and shut the door in our face. No apology. Not fit for purpose as a hospitality venue. Can't even say it had a decent pub as it was shut. Avoid.

Great location. The rooms are a bit wonky (which might have been a real problem if we had any mobility issues) and there is quite a lot of traffic noise, but we would still have given a four star review were it not for the very poor customer service. We were only given a hand towel with the excuse that they had simply run out of bath towels(!) with no real apology. We left our bags in the office on our last day (as advised) to explore Winchester before catching our train and the woman on reception was extremely rude (I think the same one mentioned in other negative reviews) when we went to collect them.

Nice enough pub, friendly helpful staff. The beer selection I saw was average. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Could do with a better selection of craft beer

Visited and stayed here for a wedding. Wonderful place. Great staff ensuring that everyone is being looked after. Food was really good also. And spacious room with views out to Winchester (room 8). Only negative was that it was very warm and felt like the air-conditioning in pub was not working.

Good pub great staff. A very good welcome. But needs a bit more care. It was hot but the air con seems to have been out of order for ages. Windows in an out on the sills needed cleaning. But we were regulars years ago and it's a great improvement.
