Wykeham Arms in Winchester

I hadn't been to the Wykeham Arms for about ten years. At that time it was really hard to get a table there, because its reputation meant it was always busy.I was due to be in Winchester the other day and thought I'd see if I could get a table for my wife and I, expecting that the notice was too short and that they'd be fully booked. To my surprise, I was easily able to get a table. We were not disappointed. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious.The pub was fairly quiet - we had a corner of the restaurant area to ourselves for most of the time we were there. I hope that was just a symptom of being a Thursday night, rather than an indication that the pub isn't doing well.I'd say it's still worthy of its reputation, and would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Helpful, friendly, intelligent, well-trained staff went out of their way to help us, without being intrusive or so overbearing. The bar keeps an excellent range of ales. The food is of an outstanding quality, worth paying a little more for, and savouring it in appreciative company. This is a public house and hotel patronised by my family for over seventy years, brimming with character and one of Winchester's great assets. I cannot rate it too highly.

We had a lovely lunch here today with incredibly friendly staff, fast service and delicious food. Unfortunately, the table seated next to us treated the staff appallingly over what was a very minor inconvenience. I wanted to say that the ladies dealing with the party handled it incredibly well and absolutely did not deserve to be spoken to the way they were. This is a lovely, cosy pub and I look forward to visiting again and again!

We've just had a great lunch at The Wycombe Arms. They have a good selection of well-kept real ales and the food was excellent. They have a decent choice of traditional pub food, burgers and fish and chips but the vegetarian selection was very good and extremely tasty.The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the beer.All round, as good a pub lunch as you could hope for.

Found this pub whilst strolling around Winchester. What a wonderful old pub! Very friendly and helpful staff and service. Warm fireplaces in the public bars (8-10C at the moment). 2 public bars the Nelson and Hamilton bars with associated paraphernalia.Very good food served in several dining areas. Also a favourite with the locals (always a good sign) and teachers from Winchester College in the evenings. All in all a great old style English pub with atmosphere. Only 5 minutes south of the Cathedral through Kingsgate. Highly recommended.

Have not been in couple of years. It's like putting on a favourite coat that never lets you down. Good enough local to go for a few pints and good enough food to go with people of any age for good food.They work hard to provide such an easy well oiled service with capable staff that work very hard to maintain good standards.Never expecting cheapest option, but I do want great service, and The Wykeham Arms has not let us down. If you know, you know....

Had an amazing Sunday roast here today! Had the pork loin and it was absolutely delicious! Could not fault it in any way! The accompanying vegetables were so tasty and a really lovely selection. Everything was just perfect. Would highly recommend.

One of the best stays in Winchester. Absolutely brilliant experience and location. This place knows how to make their customers happy.Walk in through the doors of their pub on the ground floor and you will be greeted by the smell of a fresh burning wood and warm fires and a few dogs (at least).The pub is wonderfully decorated and the people are all locals that come in with their pets for a pint or a wonderful Sunday roast which by the way you must try if it’s your first time there.The hotel is located above the pub, lovely decor all around and gorgeous authentic English countryside architecture.When you go out of the building for a walk that whole area there smells like burning wood from the chimneys nearby, a majestic experience to take your mind and senses away from the busy city you may be living in.We went for a short retreat away from the everyday madness or London, and we have a wonderful relaxing time.

Stayed here for one night, lured by the Fullers beer. Staff really friendly, room was lovely, quirky and very clean. Complementary bottle of beer(happy other half) and water along with usual tea and coffee. We ate here and though the choice was small the food was beautiful. The sticky toffee pudding was to die for

Unique public house with wonderful warming fires throughout. Cannot comment on the food as we only had a latte but judging by others having lunch it looked and smelt great. Antique pictures and ephemera throughout. The ladies washroom is quite unique.
