Decided on a Sunday roast so picked here as I hadn't been there since the refit. Very nice inside. Had a beef roast which sadly i was dissapointed with and had to send it back as the meat was cooked very rare and was told after they always serve it like that. Too rare by far. But to be fair they sorted it without any fuss, so beware and tell them how you want the beef cooked. Give it a try it's a nice place to eat.

Having only been here before when it was a carvery a good few years ago, it’s safe to say it has much improved. The staff were friendly and attentive especially Lauren who was constantly wearing a friendly smile. The food was amazing and I was extremely pleased they could squeeze me and my family in on a Sunday to celebrate my mums birthday :)

We love it here our second stay. Beautiful rooms and a bathroom from heaven. The pub/restaurant is a stone throw away so after a nice meal and drinks you can wander 1 min to your room. Book 2 weeks in advance for the afternoon roast slot 😀

Gifted an afternoon tea, went with wife - very good. Very busy, atmospheric old pub but the young lady serving was very attentive as were others around. Food was plentiful - thank goodness for doggy bags - and very tasty. Well worth the 30 mile round trip - menu looks comprehensive as well so can recommend. Would certainly go again.

Me and my partner stayed here as a late Valentine’s Day gift, and we were both over the moon with our stay. The staff were lovely, kind and friendly. When we got to the hotel there had been a mix up with our room, without any hesitation the duty manager swap our rooms and upgraded us for free. We had dinner at the restaurant and the food was gorgeous, and again the staff were so friendly. We then had breakfast and again was amazed. There is absolutely nothing to complain about, thank you very much for the pleasant stay.

Excellent pub/restaurant. Having only been to this place when it was a (diabolical carvery) years ago, this was a really lovely surprise to find decent well cooked hot food at a very reasonable price. The location is excellent, though outside it is a dog walkers paradise - fine unless you're not a K9 fan! Plenty of free parking and a great friendly atmosphere. Difficult to find fault.

Lovely location to take family as the building is so traditional and accessible. Staff are super attentive. Reasonably priced. Have a weekday walk and you can go in with your dog and sit by the fire.Be great to have more vegetarian or vegan options. Xxx 10/10

Visited last night, food was superb and I highly recommend the braised venison! (The whiskey list is fairly impressive too.) The service was fantastic, couldn't have asked for a friendlier or more attentive waitress. Overall experience 10/10.

We went to Highdown last night for my wife’s birthday meal. It was amazing, not a bad word to say. All the staff we spoke with were incredible. The chap behind the bar made an excellent recommendation on a Craft Lager and we were looked after at the table by Sandy. She was superb. Very friendly and generally just good fun!The food was just as good as the service. The menu choice was great and the food itself not only tasted amazing but was presented very nicely. To top it all off, the pricing was very reasonable. All in all, we had a really nice evening and will absolutely be returning!
