Hare's Gap Cafe & Bistro in Down

It's the gateway to the high Mournes. Worth the effort to get there.

Not a hard walk to Hares Gap by any means although would still recommend good walking shoes and prepare for 4 seasons in one day. TIP: Use Carpark at Mealmore Lodge for car security. Great views either side of the gap and perfect spot to have a cuppa and reflect on how beautiful our country is.

Nice 3,5km walk to Hare's Gap from the car park (and 3,5km back the same way). Not crowded in early September 2019. The last part is mostly climbing on rocks and finding your own way up, but nothing too difficult. On the way back you can use a ridge path on the left for a bit more variation. Excellent view from the gap to the valley below!

If your looking for a brilliant walk through the mountains then this is a must. Yesterday was such a beautiful day with stunning views. So get your walking boots on and head over to the mountains. Yij can park in donard car park.

2 mile hike from nearby car park. Can be difficult or dangerous in bad weather, but it's a great start to a day in the Mournes. Brandy pad and Slieve Nagloch and Comedagh within reach but don't underestimate it in bad weather.

The weather can change dramatically here so be careful. If the rain kicks up then mist and fog are sure to follow and you won't get great views. Best to climb around midday, early in the morning will be foggy due to the river and depending on the time of year you don't want to be caught out at night.

A Gap in the Mourne Mountains 430meters altitude, allowing access to the North East Mournes. It affords good views of this compact dramatic mountain range. Usually reached via the Trassey track/Brandy pad.Parts of the walk involve negotiating a boulder strewn path. On one side of the gap is the craggy topped mountain of Bernagh 740meters high and on the other the small mountain of Slieve na Glogh which leads along an undulating ridge to the highest peaks of Commedagh and Slieve Donard. Many people just walk up to the gap to see the view and have a snack.
