Where is The Cuan?
🏠 6-12 The Square, Strangford, Downpatrick BT30 7ND
"The Cuan has been in the heart of Strangford village since the early 1800s. Having changed hands in 2020, the new owners have carried out an extensive renovation and reorganization. We welcome everyone to The Cuan, whether that is for a pint of Guinness, a delicious meal of freshly prepared and locally sourced food in our bistro or dining room, or an overnight stay in one of our luxurious bedrooms. We also cater for bespoke events and small weddings. The name Cuan goes back to Viking times when Strangford (Strong Fjord) Lough was also known as Lough Cuan which means sheltered inlet. This is also linked to the name of our takeaway, Little Wolf. The Cuan is a unique destination in a stunning setting. We look forward to your visit!"

11 of us stayed in the Cuan House via AirBnB so decided to have dinner in the Cuan Restaurant one night. The staff during the booking were lovely and very helpful in communicating and fixing the mix up when we had two booking instead of one. All very pleasant and professional. Restaurant layout etc etc was all great.Unfortunately on the night of the dinner, 7pm, it turned out to be a disaster. Not sure if they were short staffed because we didn't get much communication. Just told there would be a delay. Very limited menu, pizza, steak, fish, so I think we had 9 steaks on order. Took over an hour to get our meals and steaks not cooked according to taste and some cold. Even getting drinks was very slow. Another large table seemed to get priority which was annoying. All in all, not great. I do think it was a one of bad experience based on other reviews but £400 bill wasn't even mentioned for a discount.

Menu is fairly limited would expect more seafood but the fish and chips was lovely. I was left disappointed with the attitude of a waitress however. Following receipt of the bill we waited for someone to come and take payment (I wasn't told to pay at the till). When I asked a waitress if I could settle the bill, I was brought the bill for a second time, I clarified I wanted to pay it and the response I got was "go to the bar and they'll do something with it". All 6 of us were a bit taken back by the casual attitude, I was made to feel a bit silly in front of friends. Wouldn't rule out going back but hope for friendlier service in future.

Classic style restaurant with really amazing food! The food gets 5 stars for sure but I took away 1 star because in the location it's in I expected to sit by a big window with a gorgeous Lough facing view but they don't have that. The dining rooms are a bit closed off from the beautiful environment of the location and therefore I think it could be improved! Otherwise great food and great service!

Pretty poor food and service for the price, food was late with no apology, sides arrived 5 minutes after mains with no explanation. No check back on if we were happy. Also had to ask for cutlery and get our own tissues. Room for improvement considering it was £80 for 4 mains..

The seafood chowder is INCREDIBLE. Friendly staff, lots of seating. Good Wi-Fi connection. They also have one of the doors made from the dark hedges, super cool to see. Highly recommend!!

On a road trip around Ireland, we were looking for some Game of Thrones filming locations and when we saw one of the doors was located here, we made a reservation for lunch. What a pleasant surprise this place was. The food was lovely and the bar area was really nice but the staff were the best part of our visit here. They were extremely welcoming and friendly. We mainly dealt with Sean and Bernie and they were an absolute credit to the place (I hope those names are right and that ye managed to find tickets for the all Ireland!) Wouldn't hesitate recommending this to anyone
